Is my weed plant starting to bud!? (I hope not)
    #23735505 - 10/13/16 09:32 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I planted some seeds at the start of winter, hoping they would grow all through winter then summer and start budding next winter when they are massive.

I just went to water them and noticed it looks like they are starting to bud now. Seeing as summer is still a month away (Australia) this is concerning :/

If this is the case should I just leave them be or should I tip them everywhere?

topping wont stop them from flowering. i would not do that.

i would try to figure out the hours of daylight, perhaps try to add some supplemental lighting to push it towards 16/8. It will take a while, but the plant will "reveg" and have a bushier structure than normal.

nice pistils there, she'll be a beauty.

I would just let them do their thing, no sense in fighting nature.

At the moment sunrise is around 5am and sunset 5:30pm so they are getting ~12 hours of sunlight with an average daytime temperature of 25° celsius. The greenhouse they are growing in is like 30 meters from the nearest power source so artificial lighting isn't really an option. Also the greenhouse is made of shade cloth material so everyone would see the light :p

It looks like it's flowering to me . I don't think there is really any benefit to giving them an extended life cycle . I could be wrong though . I started mine from clones  in March under lights that stayed on 24 hrs . Put them outside in June .  I'm 6 feet tall and this plant is about 14 inches above my head it's in a 65 gal fabric pot .

Yes.  They are flowering.  As far along as they are, and what you said about artificial light, I would leave them.  Topping them won't do anything for you, and if you mess with their light cycle they might turn hermaphroditic and seed themselves.

If anything, you might be able to clone some branches, and veg' those hard, and they might be alright for an Autumn harvest.

Do you know the strain names of your plants?

Wow that's a gorgeous plant, nice work!!
I got my seeds from some of the best bush I have ever smoked while on holidays in Fiji (the seeds found their way back in my socks he he). I just figured that the longer it grows, the bigger it gets and the yield would be greater.

No idea sorry, like I said in my previous post I just picked them out of some amazing buds I scored in Fiji. In Australia, from my experience anyway, you rarely hear about strain names, its either hydro or bush.

They have to have at least 18 hrs of light in the begining of their life cycle or they won't grow right . The trick to having big plants isn't really about time it's all about having a huge root system lots of light and allot of fertilizer .  Your plant looks like a sativa dominant strain .

One of my three plants looks like it is still in the veg stage

Hopefully it stays that way and I can get a summer and a winter harvest

Ah okay. This is my third attempt over the years at growing (first one got destroyed in a storm, second one got dug up by an animal, probably because I used shrimp/crab shells as extra fertilizer).
If the plant needs 18 hours of sunlight, how would it achieve this in the wild? I think the most we get here would be 15 or so.

Just let it flower perhaps  Its not a huge plant but its not like its tiny.

I agree cloning a branch to veg until next season could be a good option. Then OP can test the plant and have a clone for next season.

I've never needed more than 14 hours and I got huge buds
his plant must be an autoflower or something

Autoflowers kinda just ignore light schedule altogether though. I don't have too much MJ experience but it seems like 18/6 is simply a common choice for indoor veg, not a true requirement. You have to be fairly far north or south even to get any 18 hour days (here in the Toronto area, ~43.6 N, it apparently tops out at about 15.5 hours at the summer solstice), and it seems cannabis is known to be quite productive in equatorial regions.

Also, this thread might get more responses in the Ethnobotanical Garden.

How would I go about getting this thread moved?

Can you or anybody point me in the right direction for a 'how to' in regards to cloning? Eg. The process, the best cloning stuff to buy, how to snip a branch off without damaging the plant etc.

Thanks!!

IIRC clicking the "report" button (little beige whistle icon) on your own original post and adding a comment asking the thread to be moved there is an acceptable way of doing it.

The hormones used for cloning are commonly sold as "rooting hormone" in various forms (gel, powder, etc.) and can usually be found anywhere that sells a lot of gardening related stuff. The hormones responsible are categorized as "auxins". Some common ones in commercial products are IAA and IBA.

All you have done is water them?

I put the seeds in a glass of warm water for 2 nights (replaced water with fresh warm water a few times) then planted them in pots with good soil from my greenhouse,  a little bit of compost (mainly vegetable scraps) and seaweed extract. When they got to around 3 inches tall I planted them out in the greenhouse with a heap of compost. I tipped them around 2 weeks later, then again about 3 or 4 weeks after that. Since then I have just been watering them once or twice a week and adding a little compost around the base now and then.

So my plants are growing very nicely, however I'm not sure that they are budding. The tips look like normal tips you would see in the veg stage.

Thoughts? :/
