When to introduce trays to FC, matter of opinion?

I've researched this topic before, and also just spent an additional hour or so surfing the forum for related threads.. You see everything from put it in your fruiting chamber as soon as you see myc poking through, to wait till the top of the substrate is white before you introduce the tray to the FC..
Is there a specific advantage to either option? Seems like if you wait too long, overlay may become a potential issue.. Should I let this ride and continue to colonize or should I put it in the FC?

depends on the fc I suppose. with monos some people like to put in to fruiting conditions when they spawn to bulk. I don't know if this is advisable with other fc?....

Overlay is rare and even rarer in cubes. It won't be an issue. I don't remember what bodhisatta said in your last post. I'll look at it in a sec.
It didn't say. I'm torn on this issue as well. Ive read that its preference.
I don't remember if you cased but since it's going in a sgfc, I would personally wait till it's colonized fully as there will be no filtration in a sgfc

I didn't case it but when I spawned, I mixed it, and then spread 1/4" of substrate over the top of the mix

Ok you did a nutritious casing, I would wait till it's colonized. Wait for a 2nd opinion from a vet or tc first, for now, let it colonize some more. Keep a nose out for musty smells and remember the more you open it the more you risk contams at this point.

I always fruit at 100% with trays and generally case and fruit at the same time. Usually like a 1/4" casing.

I'm trying my ass off not to look lol.. It was 4 days ago I last looked figured I'd pop em open real quick just to see progress and do a quick check for contaminates.. It did have a nice strong fresh mushie smell to it as soon as I opened it..
Thanks for all your insight man and being patient with a noob haha

Will do PF, thanks MadSeason for clearing it up for me, much appreciated!
The more I learn about this hobby, the more it seems like the moral of the story is to do it right from the get go and exercise patience by leaving it the fuck alone and letting it do it's thing and just having faith in the method

ALSO - In a previous thread I was told that my trays would take up too much room in the chamber on top of the perlite, occupying about 80% of the space.. I was thinking of elevating the trays themselves off the perlite just a bit by placing them on something (not sure what yet but maybe cut an inch or two off the bottom of a couple plastic cups so the trays can sit on that and be up off the perlite).. Is that googan shit or would it be a viable solution? Sorry to keep asking so many questions lol.. Inquiring minds..

I also had another realization... I painted the sides and bottom of the trays black rather than fuck with a liner but it was probably a dipshit move to black out the lids huh? Now it's colonizing in complete darkness which from what I see on here, ambient light is beneficial to myc during the colonizing stage..

Should I worry about this or not sweat it? Worst case scenario I can go buy two more of these trays and just swap the painted lids for the clear ones.. That should have occured to me while I was out there blacking out the lids like a retard..
