Can I root Hylocereus on it's side?
    #23732496 - 10/12/16 09:04 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Hello again, back for more advice from the experts lol. Can a Hylocereus Undatus pup be rooted on it's side? I just cut this little guy a week ago, that already had roots growing downward while still on the mother. Should I plant him straight up and down, or attempt to use the aerial roots?

I think you could root it on its side.

Hylocereus is kind of a climbing, vine-like cactus anyways so there's not much use in planting straight up and down unless using it for grafting stock

Cool, thank you! I've only ever seen them really as a grafting stock for those weird variegated cacti. And since I don't plan on using it for grafts, I'm gonna root it on the side and hope for bizarre growth haha.

I have some that have rooted themselves in to at least 3 adjacent pots.

Root them on their side, root them on their base, root them upside down, Hylocereus doesn't care.

I've had Hylocereus survive many nights at just above freezing.

Cool lol. Since it already has roots, now that I have it potted how long should I wait to water? I figure at least a week or two? There he is on the right.
