People should really have non lethal means of protection for times like these so they don't get trigger happy.
If it were Texas he would not be facing charges you can shoot someone on your lawn from your front porch if they are lurking around at night. What would you have him do to prevent greedy teenagers from robbing him blind of possibly hundreds of dollars worth of weed? I think people should think twice before comitting robbery as even the smallest insignificant heist can end in your death.
If it was Texas he would be going to prison for ever more charges. I somehow doubt the castle doctrine would trump murder during the commission of a felony. He killed 2 kids, he's a fucking idiot and he deserves to go to prison.

As someone who has tolerated physical intimidation, I have tried to show solidarity, in my neighborhood, with other people, facing the same troubles I have faced. I volunteer to fix vandalism and buddy-up with pedestrians, who are being eyed as a meal.
The short answer is that it is never formally allowed to defend anyone or anything.
If the 'powers that (shouldn't) be' are involved, ever, your actions can be considered mutual. They don't make any determination, as to victim and victimizer, except to perpetuate the state monopoly on the use of force.

It has nothing to do with being tough, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars of hard work that you count on to pay bills , eat and live from, is just the same as thetheif trying to kill me. Taking my means to eat provide shelter for myself, and to benefit from the fruits of my labor to me is equivalent to trying to shoot me or take my life. I am willing to kill anyone trying to take food shelter and security from me or my family. To you its just a plant but to some its food for their kids, school clothes, a mortgage payment. I am willing to be judged by twelve rather tha being carried by six. Fuck those kids they deserved to get shot.

"If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double." -- from Exodus 22
I'd rather be the nice guy.

To me, this is dirty business.
A bad guy will make up some excuse to kill you, first.
I've heard these people being interviewed, by the authorities, and being too tall is an excuse.
Yes, really.
Perps tell themselves and the popo, that you're a bad person, and they were doing the right thing.

He only had a few plants, not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Your comparing apples and oranges. This guy is a piece of shit and also what's wrong with the world.
These are kids we are talking about here. Think about how much potential good they could do if they aren't murdered.
Who hasn't ever stolen somthing in their lives?
Your just an Internet tought guy

How do you know he wasn't counting on the $ from those "few plants" for something important like rent or food money...
It is not apples and oranges, clearly he shouldn't have shot those kids but they shouldn't have broken into his yard to steal from him...
There is a big difference between "stealing something" and trespassing to steal from a stranger... This guy could have been a deranged child molester for all those kids knew, both sides fucked up majorly but we don't know all the details. Maybe this guy needed those plants for medical reasons and was to broke to buy any Its not justifiable but you don't know why he did it.

Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

True I don't know why he did it.
It's not ok though.
If you need for sure money(for food and rent) you should get a job not gamble on some plants. This guy's is probably just a lazy POS.
Because yes he protected his crop, but now the crop doesn't even matter at this point. Just so fucking dumb.

Well, lets look at the sunshine of this seemingly cloudy event. Neither of those two will be robbing anyone else in the foreseeable future, and nobody on high st has to worry about their kids getting shot trying to steal from that guy.
Its a win-win.
