living in appartments

I've only been living in an appartment for two months and i gotta say it makes me nervous. I've gotten two letters on the door from the complex since being here saying to keep doors locked because of armed robbers. It makes me uncomfortable because i come home at night. It's not a good feeling. Luckily my neighbor is a cop. Or that unlucky? He seems like a cool guy, but i still get those bad vibes whenever I see a letter like that. Wish they would hire security or something. Anyone else ever deal with this kinda stuff?

I too just moved out a couple months ago. It's in Cincinnati and I've previously lived in a suburb so it's a change but I don't worry too much. But I still sleep next to my machete. My advice is just don't cross anyone and stay low-key. Also don't brandish any wealth you may have like wearing really fancy jewelry, clothes, etc.

Not knowing intentions of armed robbers justifies you owning a gun and gunning them on the spot. (If you don't own one already)
This is just one of the many ways to prolong your life.

I've lived in one for 3 years and I can't wait to get my own house! If I were you I would try and find some friends and rent a place or something because apartments suck

You should be safe, just remember to keep your door locked. Because anyone that is going to commit an armed robbery would never risk that breaking and entering charge. Its just too much of a risk

I live in a secure locked building, but they come and steal cars, break into them, take anything they can. It is like fucking shopping for the scumbags.

I have a notice on my apartment building about nearby burglaries. We've got cameras all over the hallways, a locked front door(but people hold it open for you anyways if you look nice enough I guess, I've gotten locked out before and was let in way too easily) and then we're all equipped with regular locks and deadbolts. I'm not super duper worried, eventually I'm gonna get renter's insurance because apparently it's pretty cheap.
I've been robbed at gunpoint before while walking home one night a few years back. That really sucked.

Apartments aren't inherently more or less safe than housing. Really comes down to the area you're in.
I've been burglarized before twice. Never robbed thank God.

I'd be more worried about the regular looking shmoes.. The robbers atleast u know they're robbers, but a regular looking fellow who blends right in and doesn't look like a robber at all, now those are the ones I'd look out for cuz u just never know their intentions..

It makes me nervous living in my new apartment. I was able to move across country and afford it without guaranteed work because the area is so bad and the rent is so cheap. And I have a lot of valuable/illegal shit in my place and I think about this shit all the fucking time.
I'm considering getting a piece, but I keep a modded airsoft gun just incase as a last resort. (although if anyone ever came in armed I wouldn't dare go for that thing cause they'd shoot my ass so fast I wouldn't be able to realize how bad I just fucked up)

Yeah like I said I don't think I would actually use it. I'll go for my knife first. But either way I'm fucked if someone has a gun which is why I want my own to actually have peace of mind.

Lol @ modded airsoft gun. Get yourself something real and packed with speer gold dot +p or +p+ hp's. Or better yet a shotty packed with 00 or #1 buck. Also a 600 lumen steam light will blind anyone in front of it. You'll thank me later.

I grew up in a strict gun state and now live in a gun-friendly one for the last couple months. So I've never really had the option to even own one, unless I wanted to shoot at a range which I didn't really, for the price of a gun and a membership. Shot rifles and shotguns though I'd love an 8 gauge chillin... The light sounds cool but should I really blind a home intruder? I would say that a nervous kid with nothing to lose would start to spray and pray at that point.

Good luck finding 8 gauge ammo on a regular basis, then paying for it, then managing the recoil. A 12 will be more than enough. Why wouldn't you want to use a blinding light that takes 1/10th of a second to flick on without even adjusting your grip on your firearm.

I'm big enough to manage the recoil on a couple shots. But yeah, thanks for the heads up. The stream light is a gun attachment you're talking about?

Do a quick Google search on 8 gauge guns and ammo($$$$$). Good luck on easily finding new production ammo that you would want to trust with your life. Even if I had one it would not be my 1st choice,2nd, 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and so on until I ran out of choices at my disposal for home defense. Big/slow means harder to work in the confined spaces of a home/apartment especially around corners, limited magazine capacity, recoil for follow up shot(s), etc. Stream lights attach to the rail of a gun and operate with a toggle type switch you work with your index finger without having to fumble or adjust grip. Very bright.

Yeah I mean I wasn't arguing that, you were right 12 gauge would be fine. Those things are no joke themselves. And that recoil is nothing to me.
Still thinking about a glock 17 or something in the sidearms catagory. I do live in a small apartment so storing a shotgun somewhere hidden yet accessible isn't that easy.
