did i just fuck this grain?

I was busy with another project and let this grain go a few minutes longer than normal. I never really get split rye, I tend to run it a little dry as I usually run 6 quart bags and those can get a little damp as they colonize. Am I going to run into problems with this?

That's what I was thinking. I have some agar ready could make some grain masters. Can I let half of it sit over night? I can only pc 7 quarts at a time in jars....

Sorry I assumed these were your grains while they were drying off and you were worried about that split kernel right there. Definitely too wet

I can think of plenty of other things to fuck besides grain.
Try your hand first if you're that hard up
Your grain does look pretty wet though. Was that before or after you fucked it?

Yeah they will mush up and turn bacterial or ferment every time I over cook my bird seed it does the same thing . I have switched to covering with boiling water / gypsum and letting sit for 24 hours rinse and dry it comes out perfect every time

I feel like this is a very counterproductive way to prep grains

It never fails and I have not had a spawn jar fail in months and that was due to a faulty lid the purpose is solely hydration! Without over hydrating

The whole pourpose of boiling water is that it evaporates quickly after straining. You're prepping your grains backwards and creating more work for yourself imo
If you want to avoid burst grains take the pot off the heat as soon as the water starts to boil. No need to simmer for 10 mins

I have done wheat grains and they look just about the same as yours there.. I run cold water over them and put them in quart jars...I tip the jars to make sure all the water in each jar is dripped out...usually works fine after 90 minutes..

Erin your hand in it. If it just feels like a hand full of seeds your find. Might be difficult to break up but should work. You just don't want it coming out like a oatmeal vomit texture

You sterilize after you steam anyway.... sterilizing isn't the point of steaming so you can put your bare hands in it

actually buddy you're completely mistaken this is the easiest method I found I've done the boiling method I've done a few other methods this is the one I found works for me I can dump boiling water in a 5 gallon bucket leave it for 24 Hours come back when it when it's done it dump it on the screen and in about 3 hours with the fans on it's done instead of standing at the stove stirring and making sure all migraines don't pop f*** that s*** since I've adopted this method a year ago I've been using it and have not had a problem ( I wish on this site instead of everyone putting everyone's methods down they first ask questions on why maybe that method works for that person! And possibly maybe a little more information on that process if they're going to put it down)

Im missing the part where its easier than soaking grains in a pot for 24 hours. Bringing the pot to a boil then straining and having dry grains within the hour?
I never check to see if grains are popping. I simply dont boil them long enough. As soon as the water starts to boil I take em off the heat.
I have no experience with wbs though didnt know you want them still wet in the jars.

I think its easier because its just setting and forgetting, not watching something and timing it right. Knowing me I would get distracted just before boiling and over do it!
This is the method that SpitBallJedi uses in his tek I was telling you about, only he doens't fan, just drains. He said it can only be done that way with WBS, and that the normal grain method you are referring to is still necessary for rye berries. He even says they will look wetter than the normal method too, haha.

Yep with bird seed, corn either kind and grass seed the hot water soak for 24 hours and draining a hour works best. Oats are best boiled same as wheat
