Cleaning a culture
    #23725271 - 10/10/16 01:29 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Ok so I have just germinated some Americana.  I have a lovely s shaped growth but right at the bottom of the plate I have a black mold.  Ive taken 3 samples and plated separately.

My question is what do I do next to clean this up?

contaminated dish -> transfer healthy mycelium to next dish -> transfer new grown mycelium to third dish. If everything grows fine without a contam you cleaned it up

after that you can start to transfer good sectors and start isolating.

Do I transfer as soon as I see growth?

:whathesaid:

dont get discouraged about the number of transfer/time.

ive been cleaning up the same damn culture for about a month.

as a side note the same MS syringe has had about a 70% failure rate
with either bacterial stalled jars/trich in trays:facepalm3:. using a cleaner culture
only 1 out of 10 trays(1/3 monos worth) got funky.

cleaning is well worth the time and when you think about it, its easy as fuck.

edit to OP: i like it to grow out slightly but id transfer as far
away from the contam as you can.
