Would it make him a better person if he had put his inheritance into an index fund and gotten rich off of doing nothing and contributing nothing? I know this is a sore subject for you, since this is probably how you make your "honest" living.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/03/03/trumps-false-claim-he-built-his-empire-with-a-small-loan-from-his-father/
Quote:
Trump protests too much when he says that Rubio’s $200-million figure is “wrong by a factor of hundreds.” Trump likely did not inherit $200 million by himself, though perhaps that was the size of the father’s estate, before taxes.
Moreover, Trump’s claim that he built a real-estate fortune out of a “small” $1 million loan is simply not credible. He benefited from numerous loans and loan guarantees, as well as his father’s connections, to make the move into Manhattan. His father also set up lucrative trusts to provide steady income. When Donald Trump became overextended in the casino business, his father bailed him out with a shady casino-chip loan—and Trump also borrowed $9 million against his future inheritance. While Trump asserts “it has not been easy for me,” he glosses over the fact that his father paved the way for his success — and that his father bailed him out when he got into trouble.
http://www.politifact.com/florida/article/2016/mar/07/did-donald-trump-inherit-100-million/
Quote:
A National Journal writer, S.V. Dáte, estimated Trump started with $40 million in 1974 when he became president of his father’s real estate company. By one estimate, the firm was worth about $200 million. Divided among Donald Trump and his four siblings, each would have received $40 million.
But the company wasn’t liquidated that year, so Trump didn’t receive that as cash.
In 1982, after running his father’s firm for eight years, Forbes magazine estimated Trump’s worth at $200 million.
http://www.businessinsider.com/how-donald-trump-got-rich-2016-3
Quote:
Where Trump did shine was in his Manhattan real estate investments. But here again, the key wasn’t deals.
In this case, he inherited control and eventually one-quarter ownership of a family organization worth about $200 million in 1974, and invested heavily in Manhattan. Back in 1974, $200 million was worth something: close to $800 million in today’s money...Manhattan real estate took off in a spectacular fashion — average land prices went up by well over 6,000% between 1973 and the present day.
That means Trump could have bought pieces of Manhattan real estate at random — and at fair market prices without bothering to negotiate — and still achieved those returns...So, if Trump were to write a book on what really made him rich, it would be something like: “The Art of Taking Huge Risks with Huge Amounts of Start-Up Capital,” which would be an interesting book, although I do admit "The Art of the Deal" is catchier.

He literally has contributed nothing. If I put my money in an index fund, I would pay taxes on the capital gains.
Donald trump bilks investors, doesn't pay taxes, short changes employees and contractors, uses campaign donations to enrich himself, his companies and his family, and does business with embargoed nations like Cuba and Iran. He's a freeloading cheating parasite.

What I mean is... what would happen if everybody who had money stopped building businesses and just turned financial magic tricks to increase their stacks? Surely not everybody (meaning 100% of rich people) could do this, because then our economy would completely implode.
Say what you will about Trump's businesses, but they employ people. It's an actual economic engine, whereas simply throwing your money into an index fund is a method of personal enrichment that serves nobody but yourself. And like I said, if everybody did this, we would completely cannibalize ourselves economically and fall to ruins very quickly.

Yep, foreigners with H2-B visas.
http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2016/jul/27/michael-bloomberg/michael-bloomberg-donald-trump-visa-sys/
Quote:
We couldn’t reach a spokesman for Bloomberg, however, it’s likely he was referring to Trump hiring foreign workers at his Mar-A-Lago Club, an exclusive eating club in a mansion in Palm Beach County, Florida. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz made a similar attack during the primary.
The club has sought H-2B visas for low-skilled, low-wage workers such as cooks, wait staff and housekeepers. H-2B visas are legal — Congress has set the cap at 66,000 per year — and its agricultural counterpart is the H-2A visa. The vast majority of the workers on these two visas programs nationwide are young Mexican men, although news reports say Trump sought workers from Europe.

Tell that to the 3,000 trump Taj Mahal employees who lost their jobs today.

You still aren't getting the point.
Trump's father loaned him money to continue on with the family business and participate in expanding business ventures...not to just fuck off with and be rich until the money dries up and future generations of the Trump family end up with nothing.
And failure is a part of business. Businesses fail all the time. If you have more successful businesses than failed businesses, you come out ahead. But you've made it abundantly clear that you're unwilling to look at the big picture and instead want to isolate snippets and nitpick them to death. You're a true pseudointellectual in every sense of the word.

Where are all the people who credit trump's businesses for helping them get wealthy? People like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet leave millionaires in their wake. Trump leaves people who have lost everything in his wake.
There were secretaries who worked for Microsoft and Apple in the early years who are multimillionaires now. Who was lifted up by Trumps "rising tide?" Every single trump company that he took public has failed, leaving stockholders with nothing. It's a fucking embarrassment that you defend this loser.

You're claiming Trumps business are an economic engine, and that he contributes to the wealth of the nation. That's just bullshit. Who has he helped but himself and his family? He bankrupts companies and leaves investors with nothing. He doesn't pay taxes The crown jewel of his empire literally shuttered it's doors TODAY, putting 3000 people out of a job. People who bought stock in his companies ended up with worthless certificates. What has he done except extract value out of a business until it dies from his parasitic actions?
The world would have been a much better place if he had invested that money in the stock market so that competent business owners could have used it, instead of being managed by an incompetent buffoon.
