Amanita Var. ID
    #23713842 - 10/06/16 05:14 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Found a Amanita variant in the same woodchip bed under some pine trees at my college campus. Was very excited when I saw it and decided to pick this one for an ID request. It is a very beautiful mushroom, and I plan on trying to replant it in my yard to grow more. I am wondering if it is an edible variant of the amanita species? Sorry for fuzzy pictures my camera is not the best.

EDIT:
Ok so I transplanted the mushroom into my yard and it seems to be growing quite well aside from the slug invasion which I will keep in control. Im thinking of just letting it do its thing so it can drop some spores and hopefully I can get another flush out of this before winter. Anways, heres some more photos maybe I can get an ID for this now?

Depends on what you mean by edible.
Do you mean edible and tasty or edible with psychoactive effects and won't kill you unless you eat too many?

That amanita is very young so hard to identify properly.
But I can say that it's not one of the yummy variety, probably poisonous, potentially deadly if you eat a few of them, but not a death cap.

Don't eat it

Yes I mean edible with psycho active. I know the ibotenic acid is not good unless converted to muscimol. Im wondering if these are an edible non poisoness species if converted

You should have let it grow I don't think anyone could properly identify it If I were to guess I would say a toss up between over exposed death cap and ferosa... Have patience brother amanitas are not fun and legal in all but 2 US states so you can get some at your local head shop. If you want to find some you can identify they grow in fairy rings so don't be an a-hole leave the buttons or wait for them to grow which can take like 3weeks.

Beyond that one mistake with an amanita and you quality of life with be poor for the rest of your life as long or short as that may be.

Too young to ID sorry. Return to the place you found it over the next few days and try to pick a more mature mushroom for ID.
Read the sticky post about asking for an ID so you know what information helps us in a proper ID of a mushroom.
Never ever eat a mushroom that is not properly ID'd.

I think there's a good bet your mushrooms are in Amanita section Amanita, but I don't feel comfortable telling someone as eager as yourself, that what you have is psychoactive and you're OK to consume it, that would be irresponsible of myself given the genus is full of toxic mushrooms, and many eager individuals like yourself cause harm to themselves, and the scene they associate with, by consuming bad mushrooms, and ending up in the ER.

When formulating a proper ID request, try to show specimens which are mature, if you observe any that is, mushrooms change a lot as they grow, and how they appear when immature, might be totally different than how they appear when fully grown.

This entire thread is baffling.

That is a young Amanita button, not really identifiable unless you had also found more mature examples right with it.

Better luck next time OP.  Read the ID request form posting and take some notes next time you find something.

Gotcha all. Sorry, Im new to the hunting side of these entheogens. I was unaware the amanita needed to be more mature, I was alwas under the assumption that mushrooms were most potent when the veil first breaks and this one looked like that stage. I do not plan on consuming it unless it was 100% identified with no doubts. I was not so eager to consume, but more eager to ID so I dont kill a mushroom for no reason. I will place it back where I found it hoping it grows, or at least can drop spores to spawn with the other species there. Although they were all stepped on and destroyed I think it would do better if I cared for it at my place. Thanks for the helpful tips

An Amanita muscaria variant.  While it did continueto develop and open, Amanita are mycorrhizal and won't flush againfrom the spores dropped when you planted it.

A mycorrhiza (Greek: μυκός, mykós, "fungus" and ριζα, riza, "roots", pl. mycorrhizae or mycorrhizas) is a symbiotic (generally mutualistic, but occasionally weakly pathogenic) association between a fungus and the roots of a vascular plant.
