Very simple timer question
#23721864 - 10/09/16 11:40 AM (7 years, 3 months ago) |
|
|
I simply want a timer that can turn on for a specified amount of time and be off for an amount of time. The time between cycles and the cycle time will stay the same. I would like to be able to have it run for 3 or 4 weeks. For a 24 hour timer work for this or do I need another type of timer. Seems all I can find are ones where you have to put in tonnes of times just to have it do something so simple. There must be a type of timer where I can just modify the amount of on time and the amount of off time and have it repeat indefinitely.
Thank and sorry if this has been answered.

Is this for an airpump?
I sure hope this isn't for an airpump...

The only timer you need is a 12/12 one for your light
And yes there's a timer for any application... Go buy one we're not the hardware store.

Possibly for lights. You should be able to find a simple timer at home depot or Lowe's for the cheap. Even walmart and probably any place you go lol.. Amazon has a lot. Their are plenty that are simple and cheap to choose from.

Actually what I'm looking for is a timer for an exhaust fan, air in my greenhouse will circulate via computer fans, and then will be completely exchanged every 3 or 4 hours as co2 builds. I was just wondering if that kind of timer has a name. So I can set something like 2 mins on, 3 hours off without having to program like a weeks worth of times into the 7 day or 24 hour ones.

How do you know how much your co2 builds up. What's the volume of your greenhouse and how many substrates do you have in there. Most people prefer passive FAE simply cut some slits in the greenhouse so its more automated than having to use fans and timers and sensors etc..
Its way more automated and space saving to stack tubs

Half pound per tub, less maintenance than any greenhouse or ironically automated setup I've seen.

I haven't done any calculations as to how much co2 will be produced but I think I'd rather do a full fae every few hours so I can keep humidity up easier. I have an ultrasonic with a controller for humidity. It just seems like all the timers I see at store are like 7 day timers and I don't want to program that many cycles, rather have something I can easily change up by adjusting a few settings.

Your substrates need to have surface humidity of say 90-99% Less than an inch from the surface or so
The ambient air the mushrooms grow into should be about 50-70. The blocks of substrate supply moisture and surface humidity. The fruiting chamber or greenhouse is only a crutch to keep the mushrooms from cracking or drying out too much during growth. You should still manually mist the substrates to replenish water lost to fruit development or dunk them or bottom water them. Fresh air is far more important than humidity supply as much fresh air as possible.

Supply fresh air as much as possible until you achieve dense full pinsets. Supply hydration to support mushrooms growth(90-93% water by mass)
Appropriate dense full pinsets also support their own microclimate

Simple timer answer: Cycle timer is what you're looking for. Analog is better than digital.

Wouldn't having the greenhouse at 90% humidity and circulating the air have the same effect? Fae is for co2 removal so the mushrooms know to grow, so circulating the air will remove co2 from substrate and mix it in with the fresh air, then once overall co2 rises enough I would do a full fae. Wouldn't his have the same effect to what you're saying?

Soggy caps are soggy caps
Harder for your blocks to evaporate into 90% air as well. Substrates losing moisture to evaporation helps with a full pinset

in certain places. you want the substrate to create high humidity inside out rather than blasting with humidity outside in. at least that's the biggest folly of noobs I see. read about high humidity and stop there then design a box that soaks mushrooms

Soak them as in you get condensation on the mushrooms themselves? I was thinking the airflow from the fans would prevent that. How would you add moisture to the substrate? I'm planning on doing some plastic tubs on racks in an airtight greenhouse. Controlling humidity, circulating interior air constantly, and doing full fae say every 3 or 4 hours. Where would my issue be.
I know we're friends topic but this is interesting convo.

give it a try and if it doesn't work out as perfectly as you hoped it would in your head apply some of my logic and the logic of others developed through having to learn how to get full flushes

I actually want to know the best way to soak the substrate then. I can easily just lower the humidity to say 70,

i dont think you know what fresh air exchange is. its not fresh air replacement.

Which has to be done less frequently? Or is most effective? Or do I use a combination? And is the supplemental to some level of humidity in the greenhouse ?
