This is my first ID request...
Habitat: This was found in a forest in Northeast USA (Pennsylvania/New Jersey region). The specimen is growing on a dead log, which *might* be oak (it is near a tall oak tree).
Gills: Color is pale, no veil or covering, clear radial gills.
Stem: Length is 6 cm, diameter is 3 mm, color pale yellow/cream, texture is smooth and pliable, hollow interior.
Cap: Diameter is 3 cm, color is pale brown, texture is ridged/serrated, shape is conical with a darker round bump at the apex.
Spore print color: Creamy white
Bruising: No bruising noted.

I'm seeing this kind of pic online for Mycena spinosissima : http://www.fungiphoto.com/CTLG/pages/173924.html
Unless you meant a different species I think that's pretty different.

How you managed to look up Mycena and come up with such a random unusual species for your first example is beyond me.

That's much more like it!
How I found that random other fungus? Because I'm a noob, that's all there is to it :-)
Thanks for the more appropriate link, it looks right, has the right habitat, spore color etc.
Even seems like it could be edible but no way will I try it at this stage in my education :-)

Didn't mean anything by it, was just surprised a species I have never seen before would show up so easily in a search.
