They are dunked properly, what should i look for to make sure they are fully colonized?
I have 20 more jars that are of a different strain that all look cleaner and are pinning after 12 days (0 went bad). I want to make sure i don't pull these out to soon.
The cakes in this picture have been colonizing for over a month.

"Is there a reason you're wanting to spawn these to bulk instead of just doing them as cakes?" Becuase bulk is my goal & and experience will help... I had spores available to me so i did brf cakes i don't see a reason i can't spawn this to bulk. Then I can isolate, agar, Lq, grain ext.. I did what i thought was best considering what i had.
"One of the cakes you're holding looks like it's been torn apart" I believe i had made some bad quality substrate that i also packed to tight it ripped when i was taking it out.
Im going to toss it in a monotub and see what happens expecting failure & and hoping to learn something.
"I'm confused by what you're asking..." As for what I'm asking, you said "look like you have some cakes that didn't make it to full colonization." I want to learn how to recognize when my cakes are fully colonized. I believed if they were pinning that meant they were ready. I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
Thanks

I have more spawn and spores & can just try again if i fail.
This spawn is about 12 days old and pinning already. Is this going to majorly mess with my tub or yield? or just colonize slower with higher risk of contamination and a normal yield?

Took your advice and whipped up a fruiting chamber for a couple cakes, maybe it'll teach me how to recognize bad cakes easier.

You didn't use agar right? The reason that bulk isn't the best idea with cakes is that cakes are usually inoculated with a spore syringe and spore syringes 99.99% of the time have a bit of bacteria in them. The bacteria isn't enough to ruin most grows but when you spawn to bulk it makes it riskier. A bulk tub from contaminated cakes could stall out or be way more susceptible to a more serious contam.

man those cakes look like they've been through hell and back, highly bacterial too. don't be expecting a lot out of this grow other than some lessons learned. its also obvious you have not watched the Lets Grow Mushrooms videos. start there, with the BRF tek, and follow it step by step. and read, read, read as much as you can on these forums. you're trying to take short cuts - they're going to take you no where fast.

i was miss informed to leave those cakes in the jars a week after they started pinning (Reading to much info some from questionable sources), other then that i did everything to a tee (printed it off and went step by step), coulda been a bad syringe, or as i said before my substrate quality. I do appreciate the advice though.
Its good to know that it is bacteria, if your don't mind i would like to know which parts looks bad so i might better recognize it.
Thanks

Thank you, i'll post any changes i notice, to make sure the fruits i pull are safe for consumption.
Fingers crossed for my monotub, the cakes i put in that looked very healthy to me (i was super picky), and i took the time to pasteurize it properly.

Sounds like more motivations to go to agar, i better start getting ready. Is there any specific agar tek you would recommend?

I have done my reading and decided that starting agar and using that to make LQ is the best way to go for fast colonization and minimal chances of contam, i should then be able to inoculate quart jars of wbs w/ sfd lids and injection ports. I hit shroomsupply.com up and got there Malt Extract Agar & Liquid Culture Premix to keep it simple and i can pc cook it in my jars with the sfd and injection port. I should be able to suck some mycelium up through a needle to transfer to lq.
I'm i correct in believing this or do you have any suggestions for my plan?

Sorry i edited my post you got back to me so fast ^.^ I plan on spraying water into my agar from a pc'ed syringe and sucking up some myc then moving that to LQ, this allows me to work very clean alot more easily so i can just knock up my grains injection ports with very clean LC and nothing ever having to be opened once pc'ed.

My plan is very similar but i plan on injecting the agar so i don't have to open it. This helps a lot thought because it will help me calculate how much water to put LQ and how much to put in the syringe. I'm also considering putting a glass marble in my LQ to stir it up a bit
Thanks amidogen
