yes! make sure it's not growing on hemlock, though, as it is said to produce gastric upset if so. however; GL id'ing that dead tree. perhaps in person you can get some context clues about what species it is/was.

Thanks! I made those yesterday and they were great! I found some more today I am guessing these are also the same but these seem a little harder and have some bruising. What do you think?

Chickens are tender when young, and become tougher as they age, this is why you want fresh specimens.
Nice collection either way, I eat older and newer specimens with no fucks being given.

My understanding is that they are not to be eaten off of any type of pine or eucalyptus. In my neck of the woods they are very common so I would suggest finding them on hardwood. Or if the log is unidentifiable looking at the trees of the forest you are in.

I didn't think they grew from pine, is eucalyptus a hardwood? I'm a bloody yank, so don't know my Aussie woods.

same here. i'll chew on shoe leather if it tastes like COTW.
i'll also take older Laetiporus and add it to real homemade chicken soup in the slow cooker. makes it a littler more palatable to people who aren't me.
