So I do better with explanation. I was wondering the purpose of the additive some of y'all use......
Example Gypsum allows the grains not to stick while also giving silver and calcium
My main reason for asking is I'm sure they help yield or potency. Just curious which ones are "proven" to help and more so why they do

What is "proven" to work is to use coir/verm or HPOO/verm to grow mushrooms. People use gypsum, lime, worm castings, peat, etc etc because they seem to have good results/think that it is doing anything to add to the fact. Truth is, no one can really say if using gypsum or anything else really does anything. Its mostly personal preference.
And my preference: I don't use anything that I don't need to use. Coir. Verm. Water. Mushrooms. Done.

no additives help potency, potency is genetic. its strain dependent. strains are the product of two spores successfully mating. spores do not know which variety they belong to so you could mix a bunch of syringes together. you don't know the performance of the strains you have(could be hundreds in a single grow if you start with spores) until you fruit them. most mushrooms from MS(spores) will be made up of multiple strains themselves.
cloning is a good way to ensure potency. additives are not
