So I'm getting ready tho birth my first three cakes. they've been in the incubator 1week after full colonization. tonight I'm going to start my dunk and the next day my roll! question I'm having is has anyone ever did experiments with the water used for the dunk. I decided to go ahead and test my tap water and 4 different bottled waters and found one to be extremely nutritious and all the others including my tap water were below average. I would think that the fruit body's would benefit from the better water. just wondering If anyone has fiddled with this yet? and how it went. let me know or hell if no one hasn't tried it maybe I will

one of my friends has these test strips to test how good your water is it's color coded on the strips we tested the water at our house and the water from our favorite bottled water one of the natural waters from the alps showed to be the best by 5 shades.

This is pretty much pointless. Water is water, use tap water. It works.
You could try dunking in grain water. That -would- actually have nutrients in it. But I'm not experienced with this method so ask somebody else about it that's done it with success..
Also, the word experiment is banned on these boards for it's misuse.
-------------------- Don't like researching posts? Read this! . Also, if you're new and your posts contain the words: Humidifer, incubator, air-stone, or heater, then you need to read and UTFSE before asking people to review your setup. OR... You should be cultivating reptiles and fish, not mushrooms.

By the time you are dunking the cakes the colony is no longer in a veg or colonizing state. Assuming you properly consolidated you cakes are now in fruiting mode. At this point they are no longer colonizing or eating anything. They are fruiting. Any nutrition that is presented to the colony at this point will be ignored. It then becomes food for anything around that is in a colonizing state. Like mold.
It sounds fun to pretend you're experimenting and forging new ground. But to be honest we see this exact same thread 20 times a year. It's not new. We know how this "experiment" ends. Right now you will be best served to learn how to grow well. Learn what the organisim wants. In 6 months after you learn agar and get some clones you will have the tools needed to do a real experiment. You will also have a better understanding of what an experiment is, the questions that need answers, and how to grow with control.
Good luck.

There's no experiment here. It's a test, a dumb one, but its no experiment

I will take your advice. I have already dunked and my cakes are in my stuff and have been there for three days today is the 4th day. pastywhyte is there any reading material books of any sort you know of that you could recommend? searching the net and YouTube make it really easy to get distracted from my original thoughts. I really want to learn more. I've watched many videos and read forms but I benefit much more from a book I could read over when I feel the need. 1 more thing when the cakes are in the fc if the foil has some visible moisture on It is that a bad thing I understand actual water drops on a fruit body are bad but on the foil the cake sits on? I didn't know once again thanks for the knowledge from everyone
