You guys are making me hungry!  Nice finds up north. :thumbup:

I've managed to find a few good Coprinus comatus, and more Marasmius oreades than I can pick.  But we don't really start getting our good edibles down here for another month.  Keep those photos coming!

So I went back and nabbed those suspected kings. I will post better and close up pictures of them for a 100% ID as I've never collected any boletes before. I had a friend who has a mycology degree tell me that if they were found in an area that uses pesticides that dunking them in white or apple cider vinegar and then rinsing with water should do the trick as far as removing nasty stuff. I only assume they spray because there are hardly any weeds growing in the grass in this particular area. I trust him so I decided to go back. Any of you heard about or used this method before?

Gonna go with the 5% vinegar wash to be safe. First kings I've brought home. Pretty stoked to finally try them.

More Tricholoma magnivelare,
edibles are still going strong. We found chanterelles, winter chanterelles, boletes, hedgehogs and matsutake.

Yeah it has been so unseasonably warm. I was thinking of checking my chanterelle spots. Probably need to get out there tomorrow.

They like tan oak, madrone, manzanita, doug fir, true fir and pine. Problem is they are almost always hidden under the duff.

Christian Schwarz and Noah Siegel just put out a new book for the Redwood Coast, I'll bring it up for you to check out.

Going on my first hiking-in camping today at a Chanterelle spot I found earlier in the season!  Seriously looking forward to saying hi to nature after all these plotical shit shows we have been succumbed to...    the forest always has a welcoming peaceful voice.

Just dropping a note here in case "Ted" comes by.. I was the guy picking kings before the river and tossed you some azures.. let you borrow my knife for cleaning those two small kings.. dunno if you'll ever find this place but in case you do send me a message. Edibles are back out in that place I suggest going.

Phew... I have a hard time staying on top of the posts I want to make...

Thanks Adden!  I've had some serious back pain but recently it has gone away, so my lady and I went out backpacking into the woods for the first time.  Something ive always wanted to do...

Ive had this old Belgian rucksack from world war 1 for years.  Its strap broke off eventually rendering its top flap un strap-able, but with some twine I found it to be extremely useful again.  We were not prepared properly for a hiking-in camp out but did it anyways

felt cool to use an old WW1 rucksack to its fullest potential.

On our way into the woods from the road.

Anyways, on to the mushrooms.  Found half of our harvest hiking in looking for a spot!

saw this one from far away... BAM!

They're caps were more orange in real life.  And WAY more orange/gold than earlier this season when we found the spot.

so fresh

I love spotting these!

A little closer

And its cap uncovered from the forest debris

Our haul at the end of it all. A lot of the Chanterelles we found were soaked with water, or too mushy to eat. But we still came back with this.

It was such a beautiful experience.  Found a nice spot near a clearing  in the woods leaving us with a wonderful view of the full moon rising and the fog rolling in and out of the forest in the distance under the moonlight.  A family of deer wandered right by our camp in the early morning.  It was semi-secluded.  Not too far from the road, but far enough.  Only rained for a few hours at most when we were in our tent.  There was the sound of shooting in the distance, I would love to find a spot to get away from all of that, but overall it was an amazing experience!

I encourage everyone to get out there during the off season.  What an awesome experience!  Im itching to go back out, regardless of temps or weather!
