Oysters?

I have a few questions about growing oyster mushrooms, mainly, what can I grow these with that overlaps with cubes?
I have a bunch of birdseed and it would be nice to use that for the spawn run, rye is a lot more expensive where I have looked. Will that work? I also have brf and verm but I don't think its possible to make big quart spawn jars with that stuff! I read they like coffee grounds and straw too, could I make some sort of substrate with coffee grounds and straw and spawn the wbs to that?
I see people doing oysters on straw log things with plastic, but would they do good in a "monotub" with modifications for increased FAE? Basically a monotub with like, say 5 times the amount of holes? I have gathered enough info to know these guys really like FAE.
Also, is it a good idea to start with agar dishes, even though they come in lc syringes already? If nothing else just to make the lc last longer?
Maybe I need to look harder, but I can't seem to find detailed write-ups and teks around here for oysters like I can for cubes and other shrooms haha. Help is appreciated!

I use wbs spawn but you can use anything cardboard works great.oysters are very versatile and will grow on almost any media! Old teeshirts will do but to answer your question yes straw and wbs are fine

Sweet. And they will grow from a tray just fine? I am unsure about the best kind of fruiting chamber also. I just see a lot of the straw bale things, but it would be better in my case to have them in more enclosed tubs, even if theres a bunch of massive holes all in it or whatever.

For a small space, bag culture is the way to go with oysters. I guess it depends on what you have to work with, for substrate the common ones are straw and supplemented sawdust, straw is pasteurized and loaded into logs or bags and supplemented sawdust is sterilized in the bags. As far as spawn goes there are dozens of grains used for spawn, the cheapest route is buying 50lb. bags of milo, oats, millet ect.... from feed stores usually 10-12 bucks a bag. The safest way to start your cultures is on agar to masters no matter what. And as far as teks for oysters go, look no further than Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms by Paul Stamets. Also, check out Gr0wers youtube videos and teks, and mushfarmers youtube videos. Here is one of gr0wers on spawn https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22524362/fpart/all/vc/1
