Patal posted a thread about his watch fetish a while back.
Personally I'd rock a pocket watch over a wrist watch, but neither are really my thing.

A good quality watch is a thing of beauty. The extravagence of some of them is a bit sickening to me ($500,000+ on a watch is just silly) but I'd never go with anything less than swiss made. Luckily I didn't have to shell out for one (like my mate who dropped $5000+ on an Omega - he's fucking rich though) as my dad got me this for my 21st birthday:

It's a self winder, you can just tell this thing will easily outlive me. Solid as fuck, I doubt you could even keep this fucker in your ass a la Pulp Fiction. It needs a service though, it's nearly 12 years old now. Can you imagine how steady a hand you'd need to dismantle this??

Interesting fact: did you know that even the most accurate watches (i.e Rolex) lose a little time every day? With a premium Rolex, it might be a fraction of a second, with a lower end swiss watch like mine it's a few seconds a day... A little frustrating when you look at it a few weeks after setting it and realising it's dropped 5 minutes.

An interesting choice for a hobby, considering I'm pretty sure you're male. Do you make money on them?

That's odd since my watch hasn't been set in probably months (it's been at least weeks) and it's still accurate within a couple of seconds. I set it, including the second hand, to my computer's clock so they're synchronized. I use the two interchangeably, mostly while cooking. Maybe you should consider getting a Seiko? Mine isn't even a high end one.

Hes talking bullshit... watches with gears lose time because there... gears... you can only do so well with gears. Most watches use quartz. Which is much more accurate but very very boring from a watch perspective. My Grand Seiko loses 15 seconds A MONTH.
yea.. m8 dont buy into Switzerland marketing. They make good watches but only in one style There all very swiss... High quality japanese watches are often much better than the swiss these days because theres so much human labour involved. At least look at watches around the world. They all have there own uniqueness.

Here's some the rest are in the deposit box. My wife has a collection too. Sometimes you can pick them up cheap at yard sales but most likely estate sales.
People think they're useless or whatever and they actually have gold casings and stuff you can sell for scrap if the watch sucks. So you can spend a buck for 150 bucks of gold or more depending.

Just some randoms.

Very broad and brand focused though!
The range isn't extensive, but there's more than a few to consider...
Be sure to not disregard stainless steel too readily, since Rolex 904L steel is a thing to behold. It rivals silver.
Steel 'Tool' / Sports Rolexes aren't money spent neither. They usually retain or increase in value, whereas previous metals ebb and flow. That rule of thumb is based upon buying on the used market which goes without saying for many.

Many people buy into Swiss watches because they are unquestionably the most advanced manufacturers in the industry of haute horology.
There is more labour involved in the production of Japanese watches at large, (which do not rival Swiss Haute Horology) for the sole reason they are mass produced.
The Grande Seiko is one of Japans best offerings, with the Seiko brand being the main one in general, besides Orient, Citizen and Casio - many models being composed too of mass-produced, rebranded automatic and lesser Quartz movements by the ETA corporation:

I just bought my first Oris (Oris Aquis Clipperton Edition)!!! I love it!!! I got it on bracelet, but am going to pick up the rubber strap soon. The dial is mesmerizing!!! Hopefully I will be able to upload a pic of mine (I need to resize images) Here is a shot from the internet...

That HYT watch is sexy!!! I am in love with movements and anything mechanical/automatic!!
Grand Seiko is totally awesome!!! I want the Snowflake (SBGA211) It's a little out of budget right now, but I have a Seiko Turtle I modded (sapphire crystal, switch out the hands). Lol, I also have an Orient Ray 2 that I modded, with a strapcode braelet and flat beveled sapphire crystal. It looks bad @$$ now (to me at least!) Here is a quick shot I took of it...

But the spring drive movement is amazing technology, and incredibly accurate. I think it is interesting to see what people are enjoying and the diverse collections of people. I really like Dive watches, because they are always waterproof, tough, rugged, and you can live life with them (dive watches are always ready for adventures!!) I am trying to stop being a watch hoarder :P Lol, it's a work in progress!!
One day I will own it!!! Here is a pic of the Grand Seiko Snowflake!!

Also, thank you for the compliment on my Steinhart Ocean Titanium 500. It's a pretty toolish watch (it's titanium and light as heck, it disappears on wrist!!)
I would love to see the HYT's in person at an AD. I think they would be amazing to look at (like a tourbillon) but I would want to make sure it looks good on wrist.
I would LOVE One of these amazing watches (Bovet) The owner (Pascal Ruffy) describes his watchmaking house like I envision the MODS here describing some trusted cultivators
Check out this 6 minute video on it!! (it's just amazing!!) https://youtu.be/KaGb_lwNWj0

The Snowflake is my favourite Grand Seiko - after I finally got over the texture looking too much like blotter paper.
The case is a 'nod' (avoiding use of the word 'copy') to the Rolex Explorer 1 and Milgauss which are favourites of mine.
If that Oris strap (a 'nod' to the Rolex Oyster strap, bar lugs) were hypothetically fitted onto it, it would complete it, though arguably that's what they were probably wishing to avoid in fairness!
I'd rid of the power reserve indicator too.

I busted out laughing at the Grand Seiko blotter paper dial
That Rolex is awesome!!!! (and the story behind it makes it so much better)
I don't know why, but I really like the power reserve indicator on the Snowflake Here are two Seiko's I sold (and regret) They were really fun watches (Seiko Monsters) SRP581k1 and SRP311j1
If you are thinking about picking up an inexpensive watch, check out some Seiko's!!! They are an awesome brand!!! (they do get expensive....the Tuna's and MM300's)

Nice watch. It's safe to say, that that is rare.
A search only reveals this, from what I've found:
https://www.jamesedition.com/watches/rolex/date/rolex-rare-dial-busch-beer-for-datejust-1601-1603-and-other-models-10099007
No doubt you've looked yourself too.
I've seen a handful of company branded Rolex. The most recent, being 'COMEX' who had a range of submariners branded for diving purposes.

A purpose built watch is justifiable. That will, in the right circumstance, take a good few knocks.
Despite the technology in the composite, I'd have concerns of investing that much in a plastic watch.
Plastic watches are 'low key' though and don't scream a social status. Sadly, the social status is true of Rolex nowadays. A lot of people downplay their tool watches (Rolex / Omega) with a generic rubber or leather strap.
A girlfriend back in 2005, liked the Casio Baby G range. I found one in her favourite colour and waited weeks for it to arrive. When it arrived, it was the weakest fake I'd ever seen.
She put it on her wrist with a fake smile.
The Bulova Moon Watch, which was the backup after the Omega failed in the Apollo mission, is one of the best watches I've ever witnessed for the price.
This is 'The Pilot' (black case on a fabric strap):

I remember flying on airplanes, reading that marketplace magazine they had. Some of the nicest Air Force Grade watches ive ever seen. Really bad ass.
Dive watches are also pretty flippin sweet.
