Too good to be true Flanders flowhood?

Hey guys longtime lurker first time poster. Been cultivating for about ten years on and off and this site has helped me so much. i came across these today on Craigslist. I know Flanders makes great filters, these came out of a ceiling mount in a clean room. The filters themselves are rated to produce Laminar flow, but the plenum seems small. They're specced at 100 cfm though. Apart from Concerns bout the filters being old, wouldn't this work as a flowhood if I just set it up horizontally on a table? Please tell me yes. At 30 bucks I'll buy the whole lot and ship them to whoever wants one! But like they say, if it seems too good to Be true, it probably is. If it won't work as a flowhood I think I'll still buy one To run for a while before I work in my sab. Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is either the score of a lifetime or a fat case of blue balls because these things are giving me a flowhood hard on. God this hobby makes me get excited over the strangest shit...

Yes those are intended to be used in a ceiling grid to constantly scrub the air in a lab but I have heard of a couple people on the boards using them for bench work.
At $30 you might as well grab one and give it a shot... worst come to worst you stick it on a shelf and you still got a hell of a deal on a scrubber! Nice find

IT looks legit. That filter might be used and old but, try it! How else could you test it?

Thanks for the replies guys. Gonna pick one up. Don't know how else I could test it. Guess I'd have to put some plates in front of it and see if they contam. Don't want to do 50 g2gs in front of it only to find that it doesn't work. Is there any other way I can test it? Other than just using a lighter to check the laminar flow? Any way to check the actual filter is working?

Contams will tell you if the filter is working or not lol
Hold an agar dish in front of it and see what happens in a few days

Do some agar work in front of it and you'll find out. Alternative to the lighter test you can buy a flow meter (I think they are technically called an 'anonmeter' [sp?]) which has a little fan that shows cfm output on a digital readout. They cost around $70 though so maybe ask a friend in HVAC if they might have one you can borrow. That would be the best way to check for consistency in the flow.
I know Blindingleaf has one so maybe he can chime in with some more info if you are interested, OP.

You can buy one of those $3000 air particulate meters or w/e they're called. Or uh.. you know, stick a petri in front of it for 10 min and see if anything grows. Whichever is easier.

Well I bought one. Ended up having to pay 75 because it was powered but still a steal. M thinking I'll need a new filter but even if it's 200 bucks I'm way ahead of the game. I just put two pcd jars and two jars I just knocked up in front of it for about 2-3 minutes so we'll see what happens. Seriously if anyone wants one he had at least 100 of them I'd be glad to buy them and ship them out.
