Does anyone know if it's possible to find liberty caps in the east bay? I have noticed that there's a lot of nice looking cow pastures up in the hills of Berkeley and El Cerrito but is it even the right climate here or is it too dry and warm? I hope this isn't too specific, I'm not asking for actual locations I just want to know if they grow here because I've heard different things.

No, it isn't.
In California, Psilocybe semilanceata grows only in the far north along the coast - they don't go much further south than Eureka/Arcata. My find: http://mushroomobserver.org/117487

Are these active? I went to some shopping center in east bay today. When I first saw them, I thought just normal little brown mushrooms. Just for curious, I picked couple of them, at beginning the cut is watery, transparent liquid, no blue, but when I go back to home, I noticed they showed a little blue and a lot of grey or black now. Wow I haven't even been looking yet I thought the climate had been a little to hot and dry but these pics don't lie those huge fruits David has been posting don't look like season openers at all those look like mid season super well fed fatties (congrats on the azurensces spot btw it's breathtaking). So glad to see so much activity this early and thanks for pumping me up fellas hope I can share something soon with yawl!!
PS. I dreamt of finding Alleniis last night and that got me inspired to check the blog to see if it was up. No coincidences in this life just beautiful synchronicities if you listen to the language of the universe my fellow hunters.

Wow, that's quite the coincidence
Just stumbled across what I believe to be my first P. alleni patch. This is 2 blocks from my house. The area is constantly soaked from irrigation but I figured the chips were the wrong type.
Anyone know what these green spots are on one of the caps? Some sort of natural mold? Not sure if I should toss that one (although it's the biggest). It could be from that green molding wood in the middle of the first photo.

Allenii & cyans, cleaned and ready for pressing.
Cubespr - Thanks and nice to see ya back. I agree about things already seeming mid-season-like...I think this year's gunna be a good one.

Those look like some beautiful and mature Alleniis right there. The greenish/blueish dotting are just signs of bruising that are sometimes in the caps maybe due to drops of water or anything that at some point crossed paths with it.

Thank you, I'm new to hunting so I'd prefer not to dose myself with some strange bacteria. Much love brother!

Can anyone tell me if mine is Allenii? If it is, I will go pick them up, there probably another 30 of them in a small patch.

Trying to do spore print now, but since the two I picked kind of getting dry, it seems won't give me the print. I will pick some fresh one tomorrow. Thanks!

I wonder if you have a few different species. Bottom photos look nothing like the top one. Take some clear photos tomorrow with good lighting and I'm sure the guys here can give an answer for sure.

Congrats on the Allenii find. Beauties. The dots look like bruising from water/rain like Cubespr suggested.

Some times a drop of water on the cap and covered with a cup/jar can talk you few spores out.

My friends here it is my first visit to my main producer last season which was also my first here in the bay. It is so convenient shaving this spot half a mile away from my house. I mentioned before that I dreamed about it the day before yesterday and that made me want to check the blog and after seeing so many beautiful posts early in the season I decided to go this morning and to my surprise it was lit!! The timing was perfect as only like 3-5 shromies had gone bad out hundreds. I wasn't prepared with scissor but I did have my dog and his poop bags(life saviors) so I only picked the ones that were in danger of rotting. Tomorrow I shall go harvest the majority but there are tons of pins waiting for this weeks showers to bloom into beautiful fat fruits. Glad I learned the behavior of woodlovers last season as I would've destroyed the habitat being an over exited newby.

Tus area is very extensive and these pic don't really do justice to this magnificence

That's a beautiful patch!! Glad you went and checked today!
Stopped by the allenii patch this morning just to see if they were getting a boost from the rain. The patch was looking good! Went back to harvest the matures two hours later and saw that someone had picked them I guess I'm not alone on this one. I'm curious if someone recognized it on here.
They left behind a few hunkers that were hiding, and maybe one immature one.
