Since the season is coming to a close, how have the potency of everyone's finds been this year?

Mine have varied significantly.  The cyans from my huge patch are the most potent mushrooms I have ever consumed in my life...hands down.  I ate 0.4 g and I was on the floor seeing fractals dancing.  I'm on SSRIs too, so I was blown away!  However, the same amount of allenii was just a slight head buzz.  Still more potent than cubensis though.

The allenii I harvested this year are more or less on par with the potency as the ones I harvested last year from the same (and other) patches.

The cyans I harvested last year (didn't get the chance to even check out my cyan patch this year) were comparable to all the allenii I had, more or less.

No doubt certain mushrooms or certain patches are going to be a bit more or less potent, every once in a while I'll get a bit farther out per the dose than I have before...but there's a lot of other variables at play during a trip that can contribute to such. After working with allenii & cyans consistently for 4 or so years now I expect to get to a certain level with a gram dry of either of them, and I usually end up within the realm of those expectations.

...now that I think about it though, there was a time I ate one single dry mushroom (allenii) that was around 1g dry while at a renegade party in the woods, and that was for suuuuure a particularly potent mushroom :yesnod: .

I ate around 1.25g dry of allenii (a few days after harvesting/drying) a couple months ago and was caught a little off guard at how strong of an experience I had. The visuals I was getting were starting to get like google's deep dream thing , by far one of the most visual experiences I've ever had in my 10 years of working with psychedelics....both open and closed eye.

But 1g dry is my typical "starting point" with these two...and depending on the set & setting & occasion I'll often continue dosing another 1g, to 2g+, to 3g+ or more every couple hours or so for 6 to 12 hours. When I do that I'm taking it via a tea, re-dosing with tea (I find) goes right into the system and is pretty effective compared to eating them.

On a related note, how long can mushrooms be preserved in the dark in a dry, sealed jar?  I'd love to store this find for some time.

Quite a while I'd imagine....if dried and sealed all proper and in a dark room temp (or cooler) spot, and if the container they're in isn't opened repeatedly over the years, I can see em' lasting for at least a few years.

One thing I intend on trying out is some argon/CO2/nitrogen gas to displace the oxygen in the bag or jar. Once the bag or jar is closed, then open it slightly just enough so that the tube from the can of gas can fit and so a little air can come out, and then spray the inert gas for a few seconds to displace to air/oxygen in the bag/jar.

The only experience I have with long term storage is the bit I have left over from last year's pickings which seemed to have lost a bit of potency, but I think it's from me repeatedly opening the bag they're in and the container they were in for a while wasn't sealed well at all (and they're some of the more haggard & bottom of the bag mushrooms which likely weren't as potent or loss potency more easily).

I'm pretty sure allenii/cyans hold their potency better than other species when stored. I've been wanting to preserve some in honey though, I might try that this year.

up In the PNW, Some believe the ovoids vigor will push out the other wood lovers. Something to think about before you go to crazy spreading them. Just think, Fruiting in the spring and fall means they will eat all the wood and take over a habitat real quick. I personally wouldn't trade cyans potency for ovoids abundance. If one cant find enough cyans, alleni, azure to last all year, they should sharpen there hunting skills. Strictly my opinion, not trying to offend any one.

I've heard that about ovoids before too, specifically coming from fellas in the PNW . And up there I can totally see why one should take it easy when it comes to spreading ovoids about.

But basically what Ran-D said....Down hear (nor-cal, bay area) I never hear about any sort of active psilocybe being found in "natural" habitats, they're only found in urban areas/landscaping....

....and riparian habitats seem like the absolutely ideal/perfect habitat for these woodlovers, so I have plans to introduce allenii, cyans, and hopefully ovoids (and maybe even azures if I can acquire a print) to these these habitats around my area (I'm also in the central valley, not the bay). I have no doubt the patches will take hold, but I have hopes that in the long term of things they'll spread about and become a permanent resident in some of the areas that I place em'.

Anybody have luck in the north bay specifically the town of Sonoma or Napa valleys ?  Was milling about gg park Sunday with no luck. Anyone else expect to see fruiting this late if the temps drop again after the rain starting today?

Thanks

It won't be long?...for what?

I'm not at all expecting my allenii or cyan patches to fruit again this season, even if temps do get a bit cooler.

....I wouldn't be surprised if there was a few random lone fruits at one of my patches at the moment, but I really don't think they're going to be pushing up any more.

I was referring to mushrooms moving into restoration/riparian zones.

In the grand scheme of things, sure, over time they may very well naturally work their way into some of the riparian/oak woodland habitats of central California...but I don't feel like sitting around waiting for that to maybe happen someday, and I honestly don't see that occurring within my lifetime.

Quote:

....If one cant find enough cyans, alleni, azure to last all year, they should sharpen there hunting skills.

....And my plan to introduce some psilocybe species to natural habitats around my area has absolutely nothing to do with not being able to find enough mushrooms to last me through the year  .

I already have a few patches around my town that I've found over the years (and actives are not very common in my area anyway, at least no where as common as they are in the bay or PNW, I live in the valley which is very hot and dry through a large portion of the year)....and my patches already do provide me with enough mushrooms for my self and to share with lots of others through the year.

I simply want to start some more patches, and the riparian areas around my parts are prime & ideal habitat for wood lovers, it's where they belong...It'll also be way more chill when harvesting out in the woods, compared to harvesting a patch in the middle of urban/public areas.

Lol @ DavidReishi's website.  Do people really buy 15 inch posters of his iphone pictures?  At least use a DSLR bro.

Looks like my season is over.  Time to germinate ovoid, serbica and azurescens in preparation for a backyard woodchip grow.  My allenii spawn is ready, just need to do some gardening once the weather clears up!

Not active.  The smaller, more reddish caps in the first photo are poop demons (Deconica coprophila) and the larger, whiter ones look coprinoid.  Black spored, right?

In the bay area it is very rare to find actives in manure - they are much more common in wood chip landscaping.  The only active that likes manure in California is Panaeolus cinctulus - and this species also likes lawns.

Has anyone found ovoids in the bay area recently?  I'm wondering if they fruit around this time of the year.  Kind of itchin for a bike ride but I'm not sure if I'd be wasting my time hunting for ovoids.

they do, they fruit from mid december til april in northern cali. get out there and look, keep close watch on the ground because the ovoids start out as black pins that blend really well into their environment
