In my experience Golden Gate Park has been a waste of time over the past few years. There are actives, but few and far between. Lots of other mushrooms so it's still a good practice area for hunting and identification generally. Gotta keep those cap spotting skills sharp. Last year the landscapers put down a new style of yellowish woodchips I hadn't seen in the area before. Curious to see how the new chips perform.

You guys might wanna take off from work today. I got some mushroom porn comin' this morning that could very well make liquid shoot out of every one of your orifices. Actually, that's how I feel right now as I'm becoming increasingly worried that the patch is no longer there.

What remains at the best section. All the big matured mushrooms are missing, and there were many. It would've truly been a sight to see. Like a mini-PNW at the peak of the season...no bullshit! And during a bout of dry heat! (All from watering and leafing, btw.)

P. cyanescens and allenii growing abnormally close at today's location of hell. (Of the group of four mushrooms, the two with flattened caps are cyans.)

P. allenii today at my first ever find. They look like they're growing under grass, but actually I had ripped that out the ground to provide them some moisture cover...which as can be seen worked.

DavidReishi said: Alan, here's a specimen from the patch I called Galerina growing next to the allenii.
Looks like Galerina marginata. I've seen it on wood chips in the bay area but it's pretty rare there - it's really common on old mossy decaying logs though.
I just want to make sure I'm not seeing things, is that a bluing margin on that cap? Is early, droopy eyed and not quite caffeinated yet.

No, that isn't blue.
There is however a rare bluing Galerina that grows in California on wood chip landscaping. Probably has psilocybin and lacks amatoxins.

P. allenii today at the same general locaton as the above azurescens patch.

P. allenii fruiting at a North bay spot discovered last season. Starting to fruit just before a set of rains is the best kind of fruiting. You end up with the biggest flush. You can also induce something similar if you find a patch still pinning by watering it every day.

What if in actuality, they are just different phenotypes of the same species?
