Nothing will go to waste! Left 100 more pins or so to mature as well. Additionally, there was no evidence of previous harvesting.

That's exactly what I am saying! I think it will be 2.5 - 3.5 lbs dried. All I know is I had to use my hammock to carry them back to my car and it was a heavy sack over my shoulder. We shall see...

AmatuerHunter said: Wow, you guys are blowing my mind. Active cacti?! I know peyote is a cactus but I didn't know there were many others. I don't believe it is someone's cultivated patch due to its location and more importantly because about 1/5 of the fruits were already past prime and decomposing.
All I'm saying is that if I had put time and energy into cultivating this bad boy, I wouldn't leave any to rot.
When it comes to active cactus/mescaline, peyote isn't consumed much at all these days...there are quite a few other species of cactus that contain mescaline, which grow a lot faster and are much more hardy and easier to grow, and they're commonly used in landscaping (every California town I've ever been in has em' growing somewhere). Such as "San Pedro" (Trichocereus Pachanoi), Peruvian Torch, and Bridgesii .
I highly recommend growing these majestic things and taking a trip with em' someday, majority of people concur that cactus/mescaline is the most easy going and sublime psychedelic out of the classics. (where I'd put mushrooms with being the least easy going out of the classics, still my favorite though)
But yea....you make a good point about that patch, considering it's past its prime it may not be a persons cultivated patch. And I was going to say, depending on the sort of location it's in would be another clue as to whether or not it's a personal/cultivated patch....Looks like it has a damn healthy/dense mycelial mat/colony though, pushing out such thick carpets of clusters.

Looks like san pedro to me. Suspiciously laid on it's side to encourage multiple sprouts.

Undertow2012 said: And those are indeed Trichocereus Pachanoi. My guess would be the PC variety due to the ribs.
...and not to go totally off topic, but just to visually show ya'll...I don't think those cactus in A.H.'s pics are any sort of Trichocereus species, those ribs clearly look like a Cereus species to me.
Take a look at the ribs on the cactus in this pic>>>

Here's a couple cuttings of a Trichocereus, "San Pedro"

And here's a Cereus species, what I feel is in the pic that A.H. posted, the ribs are much different....

Not necessarily cultivated in my opinion. Over the years, i have found similar patches in seattle which I am quite confident were not cultivated. I'm guessing a combination of strong genetics, ideal habitat and the recent heavy rains combined to create this magic. When I have seen fruitings this intense, often it is a one-season wonder. I assume this is because the necessary nutrients which sustain a patch are all consumed in one giant orgy of fruiting. Definitely inoculate some chips and try to keep these genes going. Nice fucking find! Had to change my undies.

I am giving a talk called Psilocybin Mushrooms of North America tonight at the Mill Valley Library at 8pm. It'll have good photos of all of the Canadian, Mexican and USA Psilocybes.

Damn!OM dropping knowledge!
Good call, on closer inspection the ribs of that cacti are definitely too deep. Like I said before, it had no evidence of previous harvesting. A substantial find.

Amazing stuff on the previous page. That cyan patch is crazy, but so are those Amanitas! Never knew Amanitas fruited so abundantly like that.

Amanitas are fruiting like mad in the East Bay right now. It always surprises me a bit just how freaking big they get.
