Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata just now in the East Bay.
This is the third season since I found this little spot. It seems to be following precisely the same schedule as last year, which means that I should find some slightly larger fruit bodies in around a week.

Psilocybe cyanescens right now in the East Bay.
I decided on a Sunday-tour of some previously discovered spots and found 'em all devoid of signs of life...except the above. It produced quite the feeling to walk up expecting nothing and be surprised by this beautiful flush glowing under the rain.
- HUNTING TIP #2 -
Don't neglect the area around home-base. Bay area hunters notoriously discover patches near their homes after neglecting those areas for some time. It happened to me and I kicked myself royally. Make sure to get out there into your local environment.

Spent all day looking in SF and Berkeley. Found some LBMs but not much else.
What temps are best for hunting? Is it generally best to hunt during / right after a rain or to give it a day or two to dry out a little?

Man the Ovoids out there on the West Coast look totally different than ours over here in the Ohio/TN River Valley. I like the black Ovoids..

Im assuming it all depends on the color of the woodchips I believe because I found this one with more of a lighter, almost orange cap. Like this:

Today in the East Bay:
1)
P. cyanescens pins at a spot found two seasons ago. This spot is an every year producer, and last season was responsible for a certain "bowl of cyans." In the above photos, look at the woodchips. They're basically dry. That's the Bay area for you...it just finished raining for three days yesterday. As can be seen in the last pic, after beholding the pins and hence that the patch desires to fruit, I went ahead and made it rain.
2)
P. allenii pins at my first ever find. This spot, in fact the whole location which ended up consisting of several little spots, produced one solitary mushroom last year. So this seems to be an every other year producer. The above pins sit a few feet from the original patch...I look forward to seeing what if anything comes up at the original site.

Damn, only 3 pages into the thread and there is already 30 mod edits! Looks like there's a new sheriff in town, heh?
Sorry, that was off topic.
Not a lot of activity at my spots save for one; pic taken before the rains. I plan to dedicate this weekend to some thorough hunting at the prime locations. There is bound to be some nice patches popping after last weekend's drenching.
Cheers to reigning in the 2016 season!!
Alleni Pins

Bonus: Found a couple Morels to my surprise!

P. allenii this morning in the East bay. This location was my best producer when I found it two years ago. Around a pound dry. Last season only a few mushrooms. Nice to see it waking up so early!

P. allenii right now poppin' in the North bay. I discovered this location mid-season last year. Just now I arrived at the destination and beheld the above, and decided to eat lunch in my car and post it before I search the grounds. Hopefully more to come!

Galerina fruiting directly next to the above allenii patch. Thought they were ovoids for a sec.

Would you be able to get some better pictures of that? Ideally with some of the mushrooms turned up so the gills and stem are visible. Kind of hard to see what is going on from above. People always talk about that happening, but it's almost always actually Tubaria fruiting near Psilocybe.

Will do, Alan. But I'll be doing it last. That ripe patch above is right in front of the business office...gulp.

Psilocybe azurescens in the North bay. That's right, Bay area hunters, the jackpot discovered today turned out to be friggin' Azzies!

Alan, here's a specimen from the patch I called Galerina growing next to the allenii.

Looks like Galerina marginata. I've seen it on wood chips in the bay area but it's pretty rare there - it's really common on old mossy decaying logs though.
