Actually, the potato wasn't that bad. The photo, on the other hand, is a bit too small.

greeting fellow hunters, this is my first post, last year was my first season though i got started when the season was already peaking and didn't manage to post any of my few finds....
but today i thought i'd share this one from this morning, a new allenii find, and a fine healthy one at that.

this was in someones (irrigated) front yard in the middle of some bushes. i was in there clipping some of the mature ones, when after several minutes, the garage door right across from the house started opening. i decided to grab my scissors and jump out of the bushes back to the sidewalk with what i had in my bag before the garage door opened all the way.
I had just left the neighborhood when i realized i left my coffee thermos right next to the patch, so decided to go back and grab it quick.
But when i got back, all seemed still and quiet so i took to harvesting some more of the mature ones. Then after a while, i heard the garage door right next to me start opening, and this big SUV pulled right into the driveway right next to me. The car was seriously only six or seven feet away from me. Luckily, I was in the middle of the bushes, so she didn't see me.
But the lady left the garage open, and sat in her car right next to me in the driveway yapping on her cellphone for five minutes while i quietly kept harvesting more, until i realized i had to get outta there before she opened the car door to get out as she would probably see me and then i'd have to explain how I was just in her front yard bushes taking some mushroom clippings, and probably everything would be fine.... but the fewer the encounters, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

some mushroom love from today!

Hey all,
Had my first find of the season! It was just a tiny patch that I could tell multiple other shroomers had pilfered through (evidence of clipping and tearing--probably from different people) so there wasn't much left. Sorry to whoever found the patch first if I cleaned out your spot! The patch was really past its prime, so it wasn't that great of a find. Really dirty, buggy, and shredded up.
Keep up the good work guys! Hopefully before the end of the year I'll find a massive patch that I can brag about. I'm just glad to have found something this year.

Pardon me for not having a better habitat shot!

I stumbled upon a large patch of P. allenii today in the North Bay. Still in decent shape too, despite the recent weather.

More P. allenii found today at the general location of Tuesday's find. On Tuesday the complex's head of security and his assistant happened to walk by right when I started clipping the find and told me to stop. I tried several approaches to get him to let me finish clipping, but he wouldn't budge. So I slunk off to my car, drove off, turned the corner, parked on the other side of the complex and returned and quickly clipped everything, placing it in a heap and finally bagged it up and left.
Today, I parked at a new spot and immediately upon exiting the car beheld a couple big allenii, but then shifting my focus to the background noticed a most frightening sight: both the head of security and his assistant at their kiosk right on the other side of the glass in front of me. And no sooner than I made out the features of their faces and recognized them, they both in turn made eye contact with me. Lol, whoops! Luckily I was already doing my "on the phone" schtick, and they seemed not to remember Tuesday's mushroom ordeal...though they undoubtedly recognized me.
Anyway, I did some magic today and got everything without incident...even the specimens in view of their kiosk.
This was in Walnut Creek by the way.

Haha... I do this too. To an onlooker, it just looks like your staring down into your phone - but really your scanning the woodchips for mushrooms.
Good finds, good story David.

David Reishi, You pick more mushrooms than anyone I have seen out here. What do you do with them all? Aren't you taking more than you need?

Awwww, Isn't that cute you probably fancy yourself as that boy looking over seeing your colleagues jealous, possibly coveting your finds.
When in fact. I am probably not the only person that suspects you take more than you need/fair share/ Possibly even a grimy pedophilic pin raper.
Do you care to answer with a real response rather than a cute video anecdote?

Hey all, this is my first season, living in the East Bay - haven't been out hunting yet. I've been reading through the boards and have seen a few comments like: "Glad I learned the behavior of woodlovers last season as I would've destroyed the habitat being an over exited newby." - cubespr "of course, being his first find, he ripped the entire patch up outta the ground.." - DavidReishi
I'm planning to go out for my first hunts this weekend, and I want to make sure I don't make these same mistakes. From what I gather I should only be collecting mature fruits, and I should use scissors to prevent pulling up the mycelia. Am I correct on these two, and is there anything else you all feel I should know before heading out?

Come on man, he goes out there and looks for them, that's how he finds them- You gotta put in the leg work. David might come across as an asshole but I admire his tenacity.
