The patch ain't pinning anymore, but considering that much was mature when I discovered it, I believe it started fruiting when the temps dropped from around 80 down to 68-70, and then continued to produce pins for approximately 2 weeks while the temps stayed around the mid 60s and occasionally 70s. (Those are all daytime temps.)

We got a lot of rain these past few days so I've been jonesing to find some actives.
I checked up on some of my previous find locations a few times, plus biked a 15 mile trail scouting out potential spots in Contra Costa today and found nothing at all. I was actually amazed how few mushrooms I saw in general considering how conditions have been lately. I found a ton of primo sites without a single mushroom. Maybe it's just not getting cold enough? Maybe fungicide was applied?
I also checked GGP yesterday (but only for about 30 min) with no luck.
I'm super jelous of DavidReishi, man! Those are some amazing finds! I imagine your having most of your luck in Alameda County. I want to search over there soon...

Keep checking throughout the season, it's still early.

Found two new spots today. Unfortunately only one mushroom at each spot. Promising area with TONS of red chips, lots of indicator species. Lots of potential at these spots so I'll be checking after every rain or temp drop.

I now prefer to simply pinch the stems with my fingernails. I actually let my index and thumb nails grow out a little and they cut the stems pretty easily. Cutting with scissors takes a little too long sometimes and it is more conspicious.

I went hunting last week to some known spots but didn't see much of anything growing. Today, I took a little stroll around my office and found these.

I asked last year, but please. Any new input? How do the alenii compare to cyans? Thank you.

Since they are very closely related, they have essentially the same amount of active ingredients. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psilocybe_cyanescens

Found a few allenii pins on the peninsula, but nothing mature. I keep telling myself it's early.

Hello All,
I have a couple old patches producing. I had to water and cover one of them when it was dry between rains so that they could reach maturity. I clipped most of them but returned after the weekend to find a substantial number of fruits infested by bugs - tiny, worm-like maggots eating away at the caps. I figure I should let these lie and not run the risk of eating them. Can anyone provide any advice on bug problems?
Much appreciated.

IMO P. allenii are more a potent than P. cyanescens. However, outright potency of Psilocybin containing mushrooms doesn't tell the whole story.
I have always found P. cyanescens to be much more introspective and less visual and with more "dark" periods. P. allenii, on the other hand, are lighter and significantly more bright and distinctly more "feminine" (as opposed to P. cubensis which I have always found to be too much too soon, in terms of onset). Visual effects from P. allenii remind me and others of DMT in terms of colors/imagery observed open or closed eye.
As far as dose is concerned (this is the main reason I am posting for the first time!) there are too damn many people suggesting arguably heroic doses of these wood lovers which I find to be incredibly irresponsible. Your mileage may vary *dramatically* in contrast with some of the hard-heads that live among us That being said, for P. allenii, 0.5 to 0.75 g (dry) is a good place to start. Many find this dose to be public worthy. Anything over or around 1.0 g is usually remain-close-or-in-home territory as it is remarkably easy to venture into wonderful (and occasionally terrifying) states of ego death with P. allenii.

That's some really good info on dosage. It's going to be interesting giving out wood lovers to friends and having to tell them to take 1/4 of what they normally do. I feel like if someone told me that I'd be like "yea sure everyone says their shrooms are the strongest". I'll probably mention the species name and to do a Google search on their potency to emphasize my point to not go overboard.
Found another patch today in the land of red wood chips. This place is going to be madness when the December rains hit. Acres and acres of red wood chips. The 3 spots I have found patches in are next to lawns that have been irrigated. This spot was incredibly close to a playground so I only had time to take one photo. Didn't want to look like a sketchy guy lingering in the bushes with children near by.
