A blow-by-blow firsthand account of surviving acute Amanita poisoning following a massive shroom id fail.
https://blog.mycology.cornell.edu/2006/11/22/i-survived-the-destroying-angel/
teaser excerpt: "...They honestly did not taste that good, rather bland in my opinion. I thought to myself, “Gee, I don’t think I’ll ever pick and eat these again.....I felt queasy. It was the same feeling I had when I had food poisoning. Before I had any more time to assess my state, I realized I needed to get to the bathroom. I barely made it to the royal throne when....."

That was surprisingly well written. Thanks. It really underscores the consequences of losing focus or making assumptions while hunting.

Glad to share with everyone. After some further reading, I must say this guy was extremely lucky. The few other stories I found typically involved a far more desperate battle for survival and usually resulted in liver and/or kidney transplants.

Thanks!...I go by that white mushroom mantra myself. I don't bother with any mushroom that is white and has a white sporeprint. Even though there are probably many mushrooms that fit this profile and are edible....it's not worth the agony for a few bites of mushrooms.
Important to note are the galerina's that are rusty brown and rusty brown growing directly off of logs...I don't bother with any look alikes with them either.

He mistook it for an ink cap?! Oopsie!
Amanita is a bugger of a species, mostly deadly poisonous..and one that is apparently very tasty, but easily confused with others that are deadly poisonous.
That is one lucky chappie there.
