Shaking the bag will only break apart the microscopic fibers of the mycelium it then will have to work very hard to recover. 3 times a day? That BS right there will never colonize.

I haven't read all the posts here but what I would say is that I've been inoculating rye for a few years now (and cakes in the early days) in open air after washing my hands and spraying a little Oust and only had one contamination on one jar. Usually do grain to grain, just crack the lid, pour a little and seal up quick. If Quote:

tbh im really not taking any chances this time, i dont care how long it takes, i shake the bags for fresh air at least 3 times a day, im working on a still air box right now anyway
I'm sure people will jump all over me here but I've been inoculating rye for a few years now (and cakes in the early days) in open air after washing my hands and spraying a little Oust and only had one contamination on one jar. Usually do grain to grain still in the pressure cooker once cooled, just crack the lid, pour a little and seal up quick. I have a SAB for agar but rarely use it. Perhaps there is something wrong with your pressure cooker if you're experiencing contamination at a level enough to warrant all these extra measures??

If there are any contams in your jar you can't save it. It goes in the bin, if you open it you will spread that shit through out your house or where ever.

Ok so ive removed the jars out of the bags in my sterile still box i made yesterday and then took them out and placed them in my re sterilized incubation area. the inoc holes have no protection and the only protection the sub has in the 2cm of dry verm on top of the sub in the jars, im still really tempted to put micro pore on the holes but are there any suggestions?

WTF happened in this thread??? This last post is all that I can really even understand. Jesus shaking sacks and shit, what's going on?
Anyways, you can put micropore on your inoc. point holes. It won't hurt anything. Just leave those jars out, 2cm of dry verm at the top of the jars sounds about right

There are 2.5CM to an inch. I dont think 2CM is enough. OP just dont fuck with these. Forget about them. Dont even touch them. You run the risk of any bactiria that has gotten on the 2CM of dry verm, falling down into your cake.

I basically fill mine with verm brf to the threaded bit of the jar then the rest dry verm to the lip never had a problem, and looks like the exact jars I use.
