Location: NW Jersey, near the musconetcong river.
So.... i am super excited about all the specimens i picked up today.... All within 15 minutes of looking around! Now, to preface, i am focusing my efforts on finding psychoactive mushrooms. However i am quite pleased with the picking from today!
I hope you enjoy seeing some of the pictures. I am planning on writing separate ID requests for each mushroom, but if any of these strike your eye and you have an assumption as to what they are, id love to know! Psychoactive or not, i am planning on learning more about mycology.
I believe the large orange one is a gymnopolis, it very well could be a jack o lantern, but thats why i came here
Again, this post isn't asking for any identifications, but i would very gladly welcome them. If you're interested in some better close up pictures and more thorough descriptions of each mushroom, then stay tuned because ill be posting various ID requests on these throughout the day.
this website is so damn cool.

Its not a gym - it doesn't have gills or a stem. The key to finding active species is to know something about them - even if its pretty basic e.g. does this mushroom have gills. Mushrooms are everywhere if you are looking for them. You have no active species - try looking up some pictures of them first.

So actually, it does have gills. You are not able to see them due to the orientation of the mushroom. I have done my research on gyms and from what I've learned, the stem can be hidden, embedded in the wood in which its growing. I had also though i remembered something about them smelling like anise. But that could be wrong.. these do smell like anise though.
That being said my spore print just finished and it came out very white/cream white. Im assuming this is a jackolantern?
To add, i have been looking up and poring over pictures of the specific mushrooms i am trying to find. But if you'll go back and look at my post, active species are my focus but i am trying to learn as much about as many different kinds of mushrooms as possible. Especially ones from my habitat.
I wasn't really reaching out for an ID as much as just showing what i had found this morning. Was going to make separate ID posts for them but through prints and the advice of a fellow shroomerian, have come to the conclusion none of them are uncommon, and none of them are active.
I found particular joy in one I'm under the impression is a craterellus. It literally has the coloration of a lichen but in the shape of a mushroom.

The two large groups appear to be an Amallaria species.

Those are not gyms or jacks.

Yes, Armillaria mellea would be a good guess.
