Well I have a small network set up in my student flat, the Broadband router is in my room and the router is in my flatmates room. Now he has decided to get another computer and has plugged that up to the net which means i am now paying for him to have three computer on the net vs my only one. Is there anyway i can resctrict his bandwith so that we both share it equaly.
Thanks

If you are concerned about it, charge him a % on your montly rate. draw up a contract and both keep a copy of it. Depending on the router you have you might not be able to restrict bandwidth. it is not too comon of a feature with small home/office routers, but if you have an extra computer to run linux on set that up as a router using ipchains. ( to figure out how to do this goto http://www.europe.redhat.com/documentation/HOWTO/Firewall-HOWTO-8.php3 )

Is it really that big a deal? The comp I'm on right now is on a network with 9 other computers using the same cable modem and It's still dloading around 90Kb. Does he have them setup to be drawing a lot of bandwidth constantly?

90k is pretty weak.
Anything under 200kb/sec isn't that great I don't think.
Guess it just depends on what you do with the bandwidth. Browsing would be great, but stuff like downloading movies, while surfing, while playing internet radio wouldn't be that good.

Well all he does is download movies films and games 24/7 i think he was even on about setting one machine up as a server. I think if he does start to screw around i am gona unplug him.
