Cheap Incubation Setup, Thoughts?

So I found an old desk lamp lying around and thought it would useful for some extra light for my jars, I found a small picture frame and lined the bottom with tin foil the bottom of the jars would get light to, I'm going to be installing a mini fan as well and also a small heat mat, need some thoughts/tips
Thanks, AJ

No. The fan will dry your jars out. The heating mat will dry your jars out. Incubators are outdated and mostly unnecessary.

Listen to munch. Colonizing jars don't need much. As long as it's not uncomfortably cold in the room then they don't need anything but time to colonize.

You do realize that the article you linked is 13 years old, techniques adapt as times change. You know who likes incubators?, contams, they love the warm mmmmmmmmmm.
Like Tuhdoww said listen to Munch.

incubation leads to contamination, unless your room is around 60 degrees don't bother

From someone who has used a heating mat for incubation within the past few months:
When I started doing this I was ususing really old info thinking I needed 86 degrees and pitch black. So I built an incubator lined with tin foil and a heating mat. The heating mat was low wattage and just kind of chilled at a smooth 85. But because it's a "semi direct" heat source it's dried out some of my jars and killed the entire culture in one.
Now i just put them on a shelf where they get some light and sit at about 79 to 80 and the colonize faster and are a lot healthier.
It was I bitter pill to swallow knowing that I spent money and time building my incubator but you have to do what's best for your mushs.

Room temperature on a shelf is the best. Higher temps encorages contaminants to grown quicker. Mycellium will out grow a mold spore in colder conditions.

I live where it's pretty cold most of the year. My house is usually around 60-70 deg in the winter. What I do, and I'm not saying you should because I'm not away of your circumstance, but I made a "TIT" Tub in Tub Incubator.
* Buy a small water heater for a fish tank and fill up one tub about 1 to 2 inches with water. Put that sucker in there, then the other tub on top. Make sure you monitor the heat on the BOTTOM on the top tub not on top.
works for me.....But like I said, I'm not sure of your situation and one isn't always needed. It will increase your chance of bacteria for sure.

That fan will dry shit out and leave you with nothing. If i was going to heat jars, i would probably use the aquarium heater method. The temp in the jars is a bit higher than your area you have them; so take that into some consideration also. If your wanting to do this, i would have more jars on hand just in case this wont work.

Good rule to go by, if you are comfortable so are the little babes. Room temperature is where its at.

I think that's a good move man. I know it sucks that you wasted some of your time but in the end you want shrooms and we want you to be successful in getting them
Good Luck

Updated, used yellow paper to create more ambient lighting, also temp has gone down due to me sterilizing the area but it usually sits at around 70-71 f, going to be inocing my second attempt of jars tonight, hopefully going to be a better run!
I've also made my very first sgfc, I will post if anyone asks,
Thanks AJ

Good job on the sgfc and the sgfc link in your SIG but I wouldn't bother with the humidity guage as it won't tell you the about the cake surface which is what matters the gauge will just confuse and worry you, when colonising my jars sit on a shelf and get light from the window on the ontuva side of the room.(bit of northern slang for us ) usually done ready for birthing in about 4 weeks (inc 1 week consolidation)

Yep, no gauge in a SGFC.
