“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.``

This is a quote by Einstein. I was listening to this guru on youtube who said something similar. He said you can either look at everything as being divine and holy or look at everything as being filthy, laughable trash. But you have to be consistent and only choose one.

When you separate the divine from the filth and begin to label certain things as sacred and certain things as trash, you end up with duality which causes suffering.

I have chosen to label everything in this universe as filthy trash. Every ideology, every human value, every being, etc. I try to look at everything in this Universe as being worthless trash on the side of the road. I am meditating upon this thought everyday to make myself as emotionally detached as possible.

The opposite of this would be to consider everything as holy. To consider human suffering, love between family members, etc to be of utmost importance and become as emotionally attached as possible to it all. Even feeling emotionally attached to a tiny ladybug flying by because even that is part of this cosmic dance.

There isn`t a right` choice between the two and there isn`t a `better option either, they are just different ways of seeing the world. It`s simply up to you to choose whichever one. But the ultimate goal of both choices is to get rid of duality and make one `whole` in a sense.

What do you think, has this idea of duality ever crossed your mind?

A while back there was a thread on evidence for a created universe, and this was my response to some of the ideas presented:

The equation about an omnipotent being surely existing in an alternate dimension was the one I found the most interesting.

I've read some of these theories before, but they don't convince me of a higher power opposed to random happenstance. They all boil down to one of two arguments:

1. The Universe is infinitely complex, and must therefore be the product of a higher being.
2. The Universe is intrinsically simple, and must therefore be the product of a higher being.

Both arguments are invalid in the "evidence" of a higher being, they don't prove or hint at a higher being in and of themselves, because the counter arguments can be made that:

1. The Universe is infinitely complex, and must therefore be the product of random chance.
2. The Universe is intrinsically simple, and must therefore be the product of random chance.

I suppose this kind of fits in with the quote in the OP when applied to origins of the universe. I'd argue you don't need to live life with either philosophy though, that it doesn't make much of a difference if you think about things in a practical manner. If a means for miracles exists, it doesn't negate the processes by which things need to happen beforehand in order to achieve a result. Likewise, if nothing is a miracle then stuff still needs to happen beforehand for a result to be achieved. Cause and effect don't rely on the existence nor on the non-existence of miracles in order to take place.

I guess I think about duality often, but don't go about life in one way or another at all times.

But why? And how would this thought make you emotionally detached? I'd argue it has done the opposite in your case. It's your theme so to speak - your cause in a way. You can't be emotionally detached from something you're completely emotionally invested in.

The nature of duality is the essence of harmony, not a guide as to choose a coexisting bias.
