dermatillimania. Who else has it?

Im pretty sure I have had it my whole life but around the age of 19 it blossomed into a full on compulsive disorder. And the crazy thing is my picking areas look nothing like the pics online. All my picking areas are just callous. No sores(I mastered the art about 5 years ago so I dont totally break the skin anymore)

I bite at the skin around my fingernails all the time. Weird habit, didn't realize it was a DSMV recognized disorder though.

Yeah fuck the DSM. In a sane world it'd burn along with the DEA and big Pharma.

Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. That's exactly what a drug addicted crazy person would say.

Hm, I've been picking my scalp a lot. I have lesions from it. But I also have atopic dermatitis and dandruff. I think it started from getting a lot of dandruff, and trying to get the flakes out of my hair. Then I figured out I could pick off the flakes that were starting to come off. And progressed to picking compulsively, and eventually they become sores of their own, not just related to my dermatitis/dandruff anymore.
I wouldn't say I have diagnosable excoriating (skin picking) disorder as per the DSM 5. Because I haven't really made a serious effort to stop and been unable. Nor has it caused clinically significant distress, or impairment.

From what I have gathered there are actually many variations of the disorder each with their own side effects and treatments.

Which might actually benefit someone, so it's beneficial if used properly.
One must approach the DSM with an open mind, and take the time to observer your issues over a period of time before thinking you have something, no need to be a hypochondriac about it.
If you want true insanity, go on webmd, were every minor ailment means you have cancer or aids.

My uncle developed it badly at like 60
It's a grotesque mental illness
He looks ghoulish
I speculated it had to do with him taking selegeline which metabolizes into meth which is notorious for skin picking .
The crazy thing is he has a heart condition requiring surgery which requires him to take a blood thinner but he can't because he will bleed out through his face holes
I would worry that mental illness might run in my family but fortunately my other uncles are an alcoholic and a deeply depressed benzo addict , and my father is a gambling addict.
On the other hand my mother was a lifelong depressive as was my brother.
Then again he was also hospitalized for manic depressive psychosis.
But when you consider that I have already been hospitalized for psychosis I will probably be fine.

I consider myself lucky that my picking areas are confined to just my hands and bottom of feet.
EDIT: my picking is habitual/addictive/and compulsive.
