I wouldnt even consider lending my lighter to a 14 year old, i dont care what hes smoking.
Id tell him he is far too young. And leave it at that.
Even if he offerred me cash for the lighter id say no.

Only if he has a lil weed. If he has a dippy, a cigarette laced with PCP, still, no, but seriously I'd tell that kid "Fuck you," though. I'd really be pissed about the weed one. That's the only reason I would let him light it.
A kid asked me to buy him cigarettes with money on him, and I told him "no." And I was smoking a ciggie.

If a kid walks up to me with something they're going to smoke and only needs a lighter, just give em a damn light. I hate people that push their own morals on others .

There are values in not letting him use what is yours, though. In somes cases, butane is expensive.

In an ethics argument, it was the kid pushing his first. Your perception of this argument reminds me of those in the drinking/high while driving conversations who argue for it, because it's their right to do something stupid if they want to. Which is kind of true, but in no way am I morally obligated to agree or provide assistance to them. I

I didn't even make it down to the third option. But I'd do that one for a couple instead of just no. 14 is an odd age. Some 14 year olds are really mature and others are very immature. I guess you chose that age because of the borderline aspect though huh?

I've never met anyone younger than their mid 20s who I considered mature
Of course maturing is no guarantee

So you think people run around afraid to get cooties from the opposite sex and unable to comprehend things like driving a car until they're mid 20's?

That's a pretty low standard for maturity.

Ah, you are making a point about how you think some people don't ever mature, and people are not fully mature until they are mid 20's.
I was making the point that at 14 there is a jumping point of sudden maturity that happens. Some get it earlier and others get it later. Combined with a serious personality type, and an early maturity level, some 14 year old are pretty damn mature.
I don't think our points are mutually exclusive though

I don't have the only lighter in the world and whether or not I give someone a way to make fire isn't going to stop them from smoking whatever they have; they already acquired the slew of drugs OP listed, so it's not hard to imagine they would find a way to make fire anyway. So I'd probably just give them the lighter without prying into what they're smoking, and go on my way. I'd make sure to wipe it down in case they planned to frame me for arson or something.

I think I bought my first lighter at 11 for fireworks. I smoked my first cigarette before then, but wasn't a regular thing until a year+ after.
I would probably just drop the lighter on the ground for the first three, and think about my life The rest, we'd be talking, but there's a possibility. As sad as it is, some kids that age could ask for a light for their cooker

In Philly it was not uncommon to see 14, 15, and 16 year olds selling drugs in the open-air market. A lot of these kids were high-school aged, working for gangs, selling crack, PCP, and heroin on the streets. That was their job. I've bought stuff off many young kids that were of such ages.
So no, I am not shocked by it, and no it is not my place to tell them they are too young. They live a life that is completely unimaginable to most people.

Fuck yeah, if he/she seemed alright, I'd smoke it with em too (providing the risk of LE intervening was low). I've known a 15 year old to literally blow me away with their wisdom and knowledge of the world before.
It'd be rare for me to size someone of that age up (and even rarer that I even interact with someone that age) but if the situation came about (it has before) and my intuition told me they were sound I'd definitely treat them just as I would anyone else that stands apart from the sheep in this world and can think for themselves.
