Stories of the Hindu,Buddhist and Shinto religions. The most important or meaningful parables first and then I can read more . A different form of religion. Either Buddhism or Shintoism and honestly I'd love history and links to texts related to both religions and really any religion with epic mythology. I've been Tritons to find buddahs story sacred Shinto text and I can't find it
Do I just Google these books? Are there some passages more note worthy such as the Bible's burning bush, the part of the Red Sea etc? I'm sure there's some good parables about karma and I wonder about how many subreligions Shintoism is involving. I'm doing this to stray and start a journey of a peaceful life. I have relative peace ATM but I hate so much right now and I miss having something to believe in but don't miss the religioni grew up with. I'm not going to magically convert but I'd think Buddhist and especially Shinto parables would be wiser then most religions. I think this because there is a distinct karma driven never ending cyclical universe. As far as I understand a universe is born and dies every day and possibly every moment. Shinto belifes also believe heavily in naturally spirits.
For those that do believe , how far/much do you think about reincarnation, past lives, gods controlling elements. Maybe the earth has natural spirit gods for everything nature produced i.e. River gods, gods of air,earth.. Also what is spirit worlds in Shinto religion? I have a lot of questions. Seems to be the only peaceful non imposing religion there Is. And much more believable
So I'm a sponge post anything applicable please

I took a class on eastern religions and this was my favorite Buddhist story, partly because its modern
A young buddhist was reading some physics texts along with the plethora of religious texts he read on a regular basis. But the issue of the universe bothered him. He had spiritual questions because of the cold, sterile science he had been studying
One day he approached his mentor and asked "Is the universe infinite? If buddha was so wise, why did he never mention anything about our galaxy?"
His mentor said to him "Whether or not the universe is infinite, the issue of your enlightenment is the same."
Which at first I thought was just a cop-out, but as I thought about it I realized the totally ubiquitous wisdom in this. I feel for the victims of war-torn Syria, but theres literally nothing I could possibly do to make their situation better in any way, shape, or form. The issue may not be enlightenment, but dedicating large amounts of my life worrying about it would be a total waste of time nonetheless. As a scientist I found it to be a very fresh reminder that intermolecular forces don't ACTUALLY have a single goddamn thing to do with my life. Whenever I get down about things out of my control I remember this story
--------------------
A cautious young fellow named Lodge / Had seat belts installed in his Dodge. / When his date was strapped in / He committed a sin / Without even leaving the garage. That's clever, isn't it?-A boy and his dog
