Found in rhode island on well decayed wood. Scent like licorice.

I usually don't tend to question a trusted identifier but there are clearly rust-colored spores on the annular zone so that rules out hypholoma immediately. Also hypholomas as a rule do not have prominent veil remnants visible on the stipe.

Yeah but Hypholoma has brown or purple-brown spores, and I have seen veil remnants on them just like the photo. What's the location?
Could be Gymnopilus, I'm not familiar with any Gymnopilus like this one in my area. I'm more of a deep south identifier.

The location is Rhode Island. The spore print is definitely rusty. I appreciate the help. Here are some photos of Gym Luteus if thats helpful http://www.flickriver.com/photos/tags/gymnopilusluteus/interesting/

Yeah that brownish coloration on the pileus matches G.luteus perfectly. Very likely is G.luteus then

TI is just some computer coding some people have that gives them a badge. One has already let you down, id trust the guy who already told you he's from your neck of the woods TI's are great but avid mushroom hunters/identifiers are just the same

Thank you I appreciate the reply. I guess I just want to be very sure of their identity, but you're right that I can probably trust other knowledgeable people. Have a good night.

Gymnopilus for sure luteus is likely, the green staining in your last photos indicates an active species.
