Wispy light white cotton like stuff on my plant HELP Please
    #23701751 - 10/02/16 09:36 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

So I ordered some plants and Ive had them a few days now and one of them now has some very light wispy cotton like stuff growing mainly on the dirt but I first saw in on the base of the stem and it looked a little like spider webbing.

I grabbed a q-tip and wiped it off of the base of the stem thinking it was a web and then it popped back up on the dirt.

Do you guys have any idea what it is and how to treat it?

I dont have the means to take and post a picture I hope my description is enough, please help.

Could be a mold. I spray with 3% H2O2

Sounds like it could be spider mites.
If you have a magnifying glass check the bottom of the leaves on the effected plants. If you have spider mites you'll be able to see little white bugs moving about.

If you don't see any critters it's probably a mould of some sort which the mentioned h202 spray will help with that.

Thanks brother...

I thought it might be mold.

Will the peroxide negatively affect the plant?

&

Should I only spray it once?

It shouldn't, but may depend on the plant. Cacti don't  seem to mind at all but my holy basil didn't  react well.

Another bug to check would be mealy bugs, which can get into soil, feed on roots and the base of the stem.

Thanks guys

I really do think its mold though, it is very light and wispy.

It is not at all dense like most of these pictures you guy have shown me or like any Ive seen via google.

I will try the peroxide tomorrow, should I water it down just to be safe?

I've sprayed (spraid?) cactus seedlings with h2o2 straight from the bottle and been fine. It decomposes once exposed to light into hydrogen and oxygen, which are fine for your plant. There's nothing to worry about. Even if you do nothing your plant will be fine. What is the plant?

I'm sure no one is feeding their plants h202 on the daily.
If you have mould it's a good and relatively safe option. Of course somethings will have to suffer but at least your mould issue should go away.
