'Richard' used to stay out in the hot texas sun and do just fine. It lasted years. The leaves of course were smaller than shade grown. Shade grown leaves are way bigger than sun grown. This time around im gonna use the shade of my elm and oak and plant them in the middle.

I've noticed that as well regarding the size of the leaves in shade compared to full light, excellent point to mention. There's something really juicy about big, fat, long leaves :hehehe:

This is a good tip for snails and slugs... I mentioned it earlier I believe, but a picture resonates better for me and maybe for some of y'all  essentially some thick copper wire, but thin enough to bend and take off if need be..  And bend this around the base and even a few of the nodes going upward. One could entirely wrap it around, like in this photo, or make a U or Omega shape and drape it from leaf ends to make little copper 'ornaments'... They seem to have done me well since I set em up. Try it out if slugs/snails like to cause a lot of noise in your hood

One thing to look out for, is after really heavy rainstorms, the soil can get kicked up on the bottom of the leaves and cake them damn near... Its good to look out for that, esp with younger plants. To deal with it, get  spray bottle with an adjustable nozzle. You know the ones that go from a mist to a heavy jet stream... calibrate it to an alright jet, but likely not too too strong, and with clean water N clean fingers.... Gun it down and rub it out, then rinse with a fresh stream after every finger bang:super:

The affected leaves look like this....

Oh cool, I gotcha. I'm very intrigued by that strain, mostly just from a botanical stand point. I don't know much about it honestly. Lovely plant none the less. Those super bold red tip leaves are stunning! Good luck on the Rifat bro:super: I got a feeling the universe will take care of you on that one. Its a deterrent for snails and slugs as when it touches their skin it actually electrocutes them! There is a tape sold online and in some nurseries which operates by the same principle, in that it is adhered to the rim of potted plants. When they try and cross it... It sucks to be a slimy snail or slug at that point. I bought some tape but haven't used it yet... Its kind of pricey and the wire seems to be doing nicely as is... So I think I'll save it for a special project. The concept is the same though

Edit... Yo check this out. I didn't see this when I ordered mine, hell they didn't have half the selection then... But whatever. This actually looks like a good deal. Though I still like working with the wire. One day I'll experiment with shavings on the soil top in raised beds or whatever.... Anyway....

Well,I don't give her full 24/7 hour lighting.

I put her out on the sunny days, and when the sun leaves my back yard,I bring her in and throw her under the flourescents with my other indoor plants.
I usually turn it off around 9:00 Pm.

They appreciate a consistent schedule... But are pretty tolerant. As long as theyre getting about six hours OUT of the light, they should be fine. My concern was the flipflop of natural to synthetic light... It prob won't kill em but might aggravate them a little... Maybe, but hey I could be wrong. Experimentation is important in life and many extraordinary things have come about from such experimentation. It Just seems unnecessary. How much actual sunlight are they getting outside, on a regular day? If its four hours or so, they should be fine with just that.

Well,I don't want to leave her fully outside overnight,as we have feral cats that like to mess up my plants sometimes.

I just put her out in the morning around 9:00AM,and I leave her out for a few hours in full sun,and then I bring her in for a few hours of florescents until bedtime.

This is only temporary, and until she gets big enough, but as a matter of fact,it will be winter soon,so she wont be going out too much longer anyway:lol:

I have also had no problems with any plant, including cacti doing this exact change in lighting, and I have seen no ill effects on any of my plants.

All winter long,my plants will go from natural sun through my window, and flourescents,at night until bed time.
I do it every year:yesnod:

Lipa! Good call on the transplant. I didn't realize how quickly these little guys roots grow. The one that's in worse shape had severe overcrowding when i transplanted it so i untangled that mess gave them a bigger pot and am feeling pretty optimistic they'll be happier. The other one was starting to get overcrowded too and starting to get sick. So, glad that's dealt with! Now during the recovery in the shade, should I be watering them as normal? I remember with my cacti I was told not to but I don't know if that's typical to all plants or just cacti.  I wonder if this mix would be good for my bridgesii as well. I've got some propagating to do and tons of soil left over. Need to get back to doing my homework on this when i get the time. Ended up going with a coco coir soil mix as they didn't sell the individual bricks and the soil looked pretty similar to the fox farm.

Right on Jackson! Good to hear. And nope, water them like a regular plant. Don't let them be thirsty for too long. They'll get all droopy and miserable looking.they're tuff tho and will bounce back in no time :super: yeah krat is a rain forest tree, they love moisture... They still like to be on somewhat of a wet dry cycle it seems but don't let em get too dry. They're good at communicating their needs to you tho. Best of luck and enjoy your journies together :awesome:

At KBG, cool. Do your thing bro. Krat is a very tolerant plant and will likely be just fine... It was just a suggestion. Grow on:costanza:

When they get dry you will see the leaves droop. I have a tub with like a foot of rainwater. Placed my baby insde amd left it there for about 30 minutes. Whe. I took it out the leaves were all perky and ip again. Today they are slightly down again. So they absolutely love water.

Excellent point, it doesn't take long for them to rehydrate at all. I usually water them first in my garden and by the time I'm done, I already see them coming around:super: also, good man with the rain water
