Triched out tray fruited in my garbage
    #23703248 - 10/03/16 11:24 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Im sure this has happened to people before,...

i went to take my trash out, opened my outside garbage can
and noticed the bag i had tossed a trich tray in had shifted
and i could see something in it.. i was curious so i opened it up..

GROSS!!

but i feel awesome for growing shrooms in the trash. note the green spot bottom left.

crazy how 'easily' these can grow in a black plastic can.
with dumped cat boxes, old hamburger meat, and rotting veggies
maybe im on to a new trash tek :P

i checked the bag and id say a solid oz dry is in there but eating
shrooms that sat in a downtown outdoor plastic trash can kinda
makes me sick.

lol.
i made all those faces when i opened the bag.

i wish i had space/privacy for a compost pile but living
in a rowhouse built in the 30s with a concrete slab for a
backyard where everyone can see everything you are doing aint cool.

This is exactly why I advocate to leave the mushrooms alone while they fruit.  Everyone is always fan and mist multiple times a day and you need FAE and good evaporation blah blah blah.

Now they aren't wrong but it is not really the exact truth either.  You can see that cubensis will pin very well invitro.  There is no fae or evaporation on any appreciable level invitro but cubes still dont have a problem pinning.

Truly the only thing you need to do is make sure your substrate fully colonizes with clean mycelium and its almost impossible not to get a good looking harvest.  IME even in the harshest conditions cubes will still freak and try to reproduce no matter what you do.

Smart and lazy is something my old computer science teacher always advocated and I find it holds true ESPECIALLY with cubensis.

Fuck proper conditions as well.  They will fruit between 50 and 100 degree temps with rH between 20% and 100% IME.

Yeah, resilient fuckers they are. 450 million years older than plants, fungi is king. When the planet is hit with asteroids and all the plants die because there's no sun, the fungi rule.

Well sorry to burst some bubbles but IME that works too.  Put a small circle of wax paper on the top of a cake in open air.  You might not get the yield you were hoping for but it works.  The REAL work is getting a clean culture to 100% cleanly colonize spawn to 100% cleanly colonize a proper substrate.

pics bruh?

indeed it is true but i was just sayin we dont want new people
trying to grow under a bed or in the trash.

shroomery is about best practices and sharing of knowledge to better
grows the hobby and induvidual results.

maybe we need a 'i fruited these next to a dead body' topic.

Thats why I always put IME.  Sharing my experience is in no way me advocating people do it.  I don't post pictures anymore so sorry.

Actually after thinking about it, pushing yourselves outside your comfort zone and growing in unorthodox ways is one of the ways to really advance a subject.  If everyone always grew the same way because a TC said so, we would have an almost immediate halt on new advancements.  TCs on this board from 15 years ago (there were no tags back then but you knew who to trust) had bad info then and I bet a million dollars in 15 years we will find out TCs are spreading misinformation today.  That is just how science works folks.

DISCLAIMER: I am not advocating novices to not listen to TCs.  They are still the best source of knowledge at this time.

I really do agree. but this site can be almost dangerous for noobs. that was
my only point. it seems noobs have huge egos about 'trying this awesome way'
that will fail horribly.

its one thing for someone whos grown for 10 years to go off the walls and
do something different opposed to the person whos been growing for 10 days
trying to reinvent the wheel.

but yah i did things a decade ago that im now ashamed of cause i listened to
big wigs back in younder years.

edit:  didnt read the super useful disclaimer either :p

True true.  I do believe this site is terrible for novices anyways.  Its an aggregate of information spanning almost two decades where most is not very good information TBH.  Look at our archives.  FULL OF SHIT INFO.  I feel bad for anyone thinking that our archives are a space for tried and true information.

In my opinion novices really need to start with a well reputed structured text on the subject before coming to this site.  If you can't explain in detail the life cycle of a mushroom then you have no right to come on this site and bother people with your questions.

It basically shows a lot of disrespect to the people on this site asking for help when you have shown that you are unwilling to help yourself.

inb4: I vaselined my ass up so go on ahead.
