Left my fruiting cakes for a long time.
    #23702329 - 10/03/16 02:35 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys and girls.
I was out of town for a week or so and had to left my fruiting cakes alone.
When I came back I saw a mess in my fruiting chamber. Everything was covered in thick layer of black spores and mushies were a bit dried out (but not rotten).
I collect everything and put into drying conditions.

My question is: am I safe to eat those shrooms? Did they lose a lot of potency?

Thanks in advance.

Oh they are fine to eat.  How in the world would releasing the spores from their cap make it all of a sudden a poison to the body?  If you have any experience with large portobellas and cooking, you know that you have to scrape all the spores and gills out to make it taste right.

Wipe caps of excess spores with a slight damp paper towel and dry em up.

I didn't mean that they might be poisonous because of dropping the spores but because of their age (they all looked like really old mushies)
