i was thinking of just using a regular camera to photo my cubes this summer and getting them put on picture disk.

does anyone do this? can it be done?

Its cube season on the gulf coast.

Whats more natural than a man going out and collecting medicines?

I like to take the heavenly route to hell.

It can certainly be done. Some of the best mushroom photographers I know use 35mm film.

The biggest key things they mention are:

Get a good portrait lens with macro capability
Make sure you have good lighting
Take time to compose your photo (remove extraneous debris, stuff like that)
Make sure you get good sharp focus

Take whatever equipment you have and give it a try. Experiment a bit. Keep some notes and pay attention to what works and what doesn't.

Good luck and happy mushrooming!

Happy mushrooming!

if you're going to get a 35mm cam for photo's make sure it's an SLR please...with interchangable lenses. all film can be put onto digital disks.

Anywhere that develops film nowadays will also have the option of putting them on disk, and if they can't, they will send to the lab (kodak or whatever) and they will do it for an extra charge. I have to go to the drug store and pick my pictures(not mushrooms) up in a few minutes.

I too use a camera except for last year in Thailand, Cambodia and Viet-nam I used my new Cool-Pix Nikon 4300 4 megapixel camera. The year before I used my Nikon EM and a 2 Megapixel Pentax. When I go to Thailand I usually take 10-14 rolls of 24-36 pictures each and come home with about 364 photos or so. Last summer I took that Nikon digital and took 3500 photographs.. The computer time cost me a fortune to transfer them to disks so I could use my memory card over and over. I never would have taken that many photos with my Nikon.

I also have a Nikon FM with a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens and also a macro lens for shroom images.
I have a cannon and a minolta also but hardly use them.

This summer I will take one Nikon (probably my FM to Thailand with me plus my digital.
