Never grafted on trichocereus but it's comparable to pereskiopsis.

No way its comparable to pereskiopsis. Pereskiopsis require more humidity. I think its totally different.

I don't think saythatagain means that trich is comparable to pereskiopsis, rather that opuntia growth rate is comparable to pereskiopsis?

I read that as "Never grafted on trichocereus but it's (it = opuntia) comparable to pereskiopsis"

My bad. I read (he wrote) it wrong?
Anywho i like trichocereus for being more permanent.

I have never grafted onto trichocereus but the growth rate of opuntia is comparable to that of (the growth rate of) pereskiopsis.
Better?

It was clear the first time. That's very interesting. Opuntia compressa are super hardy right? Seems like more people should be grafting to them if the growth rate is that good and the temperature and moisture requirements are far less tempermental than pereskiopsis. I'll have to look into it. Why do the fastest stocks all have to have so many glochids?

Yeah, they are a major pain in the ass. I try to pull most of them out before I start grafting but I always end up finding some stuck in my fingers. Another plus of opuntia is that one cladode can produce multiple stocks, and one stock can take multiple scions. Also, in my experience opuntias are even easier to propagate than pereskiopsis. And the nieghbor's kids won't destroy opuntia like they did my lovely pereskiopsis family.

I remember LSoares attempting Opuntia ficus indica grafts and he found that it was horrible to use as a stock so I figured most opuntia species would be the same. Is this correct or is it just that Ofi is the shitty one to use and some of the others will last?
I believe the stock sucked because after some time they seem to reject the scions but I'm not 100% on that.
Does anyone here have any experience using Opuntias as grafting stocks over long periods of time?

Their tendency to cluster might be problematic and like pereskiopsis require constant pruning of pups.

I only just started grafting earlier this year so I can't answer that. It does seem to be the preferred stock of slow growers so I assume it would last pretty long. I have lots of saguaros and mammillarias grafted to opuntia. I actually need the stock identified. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Hey Bro I'm not tryin to mess with you or anything but I am NOT comfortable with the soil you have ANY of those particular plants potted in
Especially your Lopho Soil looks horrible but even the Tricho soil looks rough!!!
What mixture did you use? All I can see is coir and sand

I agree with you 100%. Apart from the Cuzco which drys out completely within two days.
I had it perfect last week. But repotted yesterday and its not drying out as good as I wished . The plan is to let them dry out and sort them out as soon as I am able to get the right ingredients for the mix. I usualy use coarse sand but I ran out and only thing I had around was building sand. the mix is 2 parts soil. 3 parts sand and 1 part gravel.
Thanks for pointing it out tho as you confirmed my suspicions
I know there's lots of information on here about soil... What mix do u have good results with????

I'm happy you didn't take that harsh like a lot of others have in the past when I've tried to help them
Yes bro your soil is not good for those plants. If I was you I'd pick up some pea gravel, some sta-green potting soil at Home Depot or Lowes and some perlite since I believe you live in America that'll all be easier to find.
