And if so, how do you think it affect your psychological state?

Do you think there were any positive effects?  Any negatives ones?

I did as a military kid...

Got to see things most people never will. A lot of folks stay put most of their lives. On the other hand I made good friends and lost them every few years. Sure I found some on facebook and keep in touch barely, but I have trouble with my relationships with most people these days. I dont have anyone I can say Ive known for decades and we have great stories going way back.

Hi how are you? How high are you?

Why do you have trouble in your relationships?  And do you feel that this might stem from moving around all the time?

I moved around a bunch as a kid, including across an ocean at one point. I went to 13 different schools K-12 (sometimes multiple a year).

Positives:
Fluency in two languages before age 8, made it really easy to pick up a third in high school.
Packing is a breeze. Where most people budget days I budget hours, more often than not singular.
I know exactly what I will need at any given moment, which makes save or toss decisions pretty easy. An extension of this is my ability to fit pretty much everything important for me into the trunk and backseat of a small sedan.

Neutral:
I don't have any overarching loyalty to random institutions. I don't really think of myself as having a "hometown", though I've got a few stock responses for less nomadic folk. Patriotism also makes absolutely no sense to me. Sure, I understand it on an intellectual level, but I look at "patriotic" things and think: "Why should I care? If I stop being happy here, I can just move."

Negatives:
I don't really have any "childhood friends", at least not in the "we've been friends since diapers" way. This affects my social interactions a little bit, I think.

Social specific:
I'm an asshole.
I wouldn't say that my social development was stunted in any way, it was simply...a little asymmetrical.
Being the "new kid" so often has given me a very well honed ability to trade insults. I can cut people down easily, and do so frequently. Often without even realizing it. On the other hand, I don't always pick up on some social cues, usually related to long term social ties, because I have almost no experience there. Half a decade would be a pretty long friendship in my book. For a long time I thought I was somewhat socially stunted, but recent events have changed my mind on that. I just have an overdeveloped verbal defense to make up for my underdeveloped "maintaining friends" skills.
I also have little to no problem burning bridges. I don't know if that is normal or not, but I don't feel even a sliver of regret if I initiated the bridge burning. If I didn't initiate, it usually still doesn't affect me much. I can always find more people.

I guess I sometimes look at people as just another resource, like food, water, or couch space. They just require a little bit more effort than, say, filling up a water bottle.
