Yes opiates cause physical dependence and withdrawal in a way meth doesn't. However dependence and withdrawal are one aspect of addiction while compulsion/ reinforcement are another.

Withdrawal makes it harder to quit once addicted . Compulsion/ reinforcement make it easier and faster to become addicted when you start using the drug.

Withdrawal makes you suffer when you try to quit. Reinforcement makes you crave the next dose compulsively.

It is the craving to redose that makes meth uniquely addictive even in the absence of opiate type physical withdrawal .

Here is a collection of sources about the uniquely compulsive / addicting nature of meth :

"Methamphetamine increases the amount of the neurotransmitter dopamine, leading to high levels of that chemical in the brain. Dopamine is involved in reward, motivation, the experience of pleasure, and motor function. Methamphetamine’s ability to release dopamine rapidly in reward regions of the brain produces the euphoric “rush” or “flash” that many users experience. Repeated methamphetamine use can easily lead to addiction—a chronic, relapsing disease characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use."

Here’s how meth users become addicted:

Dopamine affects the brain’s limbic system, the parts responsible for emotion, learning and memory. The first few times a meth user gets high, it’s a conscious choice. The decision to take meth is made in the brain’s prefrontal cortex, which handles voluntary actions.

By the third use or so, research shows, the decision to take meth moves to an entirely different part of the brain, the hind brain, which controls involuntary functions, such as breathing.

“We often see people who’ve become addicted after one or two uses,” says Jim Peck, a clinical psychologist and researcher at UCLA’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, who has worked for years with meth addicts. “It’s that powerful"

“Meth actually changes your brain,” Peck says. “The brain elevates your need for the drug to the same level as anything else you have to do to survive, like breathing. It starts sending signals saying, ‘You have got to get more of that stuff right now.’”

After a meth user permanently quits the drug, it can take as long as two years for his brain to go back to the way it was before.

"Dr. Nora Volkow, the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, says that the way a brain becomes addicted to a drug is related to how a drug increases levels of the naturally-occurring neurotransmitter dopamine, which modulates the brain's ability to perceive reward reinforcement. The pleasure sensation that the brain gets when dopamine levels are elevated creates the motivation for us to proactively perform actions that are indispensable to our survival (like eating or procreation). Dopamine is what conditions us to do the things we need to do.
Using addictive drugs floods the limbic brain with dopamine—taking it up to as much as five or 10 times the normal level. With these levels elevated, the user's brain begins to associate the drug with an outsize neurochemical reward. Over time, by artificially raising the amount of dopamine our brains think is "normal," the drugs create a need that only they can meet.

"If a drug produces increases in dopamine in these limbic areas of the brain, then your brain is going to understand that signal as something that is very reinforcing, and will learn it very rapidly," says Volkow. "And so that the next time you get exposed to that stimuli, your brain already has learned that that's reinforcing, and you immediately—what we call a type of memory that's conditioning—will desire that particular drug." Over time, the consistently high levels of dopamine create plastic changes to the brain, desensitizing neurons so that they are less affected by it, and decreasing the number of receptors. That leads to the process of addiction, wherein a person loses control and is left with an intense drive to compulsively take the drug."

Threw out 12 grams of DMT I extracted because I had three gangbangers break into my apartment and try to strangle me over a gram of DMT they burned up cause they didn't smoke it right. I stabbed one of them with a knife, and the police were all over the apartment, I didn't want them to find my DMT, so I flushed it. :frown:

Also thre out some meth that was sold to me as MDMA, also threw out some methylone that was sold to me as MDMA. Threw out some 120x salvia because I did it twice and had the most horrific experience ever.

Threw out like .5mg suboxone cause that stuff was bad for me and I don't do opiates enough to do that opiate. Threw away some meth I found in a parking lot once.

Every time my wife and I travel out of the country, we throw out the glass pipes we've been using to smoke weed there. No reason to risk taking in through TSA.

The coke comedown sucks but I have ways around it to minimize it.

I either do coke throughout the day, then take a sleeping pill at night, and sleep off the comedown or I smoke some weed and pop a xanax.

It's a dirty drug for sure, but in a good way. :datass:

I remember that story about the dmt, the gangbangers and the stabbing. Forget which thread I read it in. Shitty you had to stab the dude (for the impression it might have left on you), but good thing you're alive.

On the 120x, had you tried any lower extractions? I honestly don't think I'd even attempt anything over 30x, and honestly 10x is about my real limit. Seeing 120x, shit's gotta be pure salvinorin A. I couldn't even imagine. Sounds like a bad time.

I used to dabble in this shit. I could consciously feel my dopamine stores being depleted with every rip. Typically after half a gram I was totally wiped and smoking more wouldnt trigger anything, most realized this. the ones that didnt got hooked. Education is key.

Yeah most users think "i have used cocaine many times and i am fine" not realizing that they have scarring on their heart that they cant feel.

Even when having a heart attack you might feel nothing more than a short period of nausea , dizziness and sweating, and often not even that.

Many chronic cocaine users will die of heart problems in middle age caused by cocaine use in their teens or twenties.

Cocaine severley damaged my entire social circle. Its pretty breathtaking how much suffering and harm it caused my generation.

Recently had the first cocaine death in my social circle. A friend lost his girlfriend.

She was 30.

Yeah, scary stuff. I haven't used any in about 2 years, and don't plan on doing so. Sucks if I did some real permanent damage to my heart when I was abusing it.

Yeah it was really stupid. They were people I knew from work and they knew I was making it and stuff. I tried to show them how to smoke it and told them over and over not to burn it, when they burned it by trying to smoke it without buying something special to smoke it with, instead of asking for a refund, they concluded a I was trying to rip them off and hit me up for more.

When they showed up for more, as soon as I turned my back and pulled out the scale to weigh out more, a hand came from behind me and started choking the shit out of me. One guy held me while the over guy punched me over and over in my face and stomach. I tried to kick him cause my legs were free and kicked a hole in my wall by accident. The third guy ran into my bedroom and stole my oil rig and vector torch that I had used to get the both of us high with a couple times.

Fortunately they tried to kill me in my kitchen or I might be dead right now. I struggled and started to see black spots as I was starved for air. I reached behind me and yanked out my silverware drawer, and used my body weight to pull the both of us to the ground. The guy was still squeezing me neck so hard I thought his fingers were gonna go through it. So I picked up a steak knife off the floor and jammed it behind me. It sunk into his mid-shoulder/neck area and he started screaming and let go of me. He pulled himself backwards off the knife and started spurting blood all over himself, me, and my kitchen floor.

I was basically in shock at this point, and the guy I stabbed and his two buddies booked it out my front door, trailing blood all over the place. I was shaking like crazy, and had the best adrenaline rush of my life.

It felt like MDMA times a million. The feeling of surviving what I thought was going to be my death was the best drug of all. I called the police as soon as the fog from getting punched repeatedly in the head cleared.

The guys who robbed me ended up doing like five years for robbery and assault. The friend I stabbed I never found out about, I didn't really want to stick around and moved out of state as soon as I could so I don't know if I killed him or not. Shit messed me up for a while. I still have some trauma from it but I try to put it behind me.

On salvia, I have not tried lower extractions of salvia, but I'd be really interested in growing a plant and trying it the natural way. I feel like intense extracts aren't the way the plant was intended to be consumed, probably.

I throw out blow on occasion.  It only happens when I know I've had enough (often times way too much) and its time to call it a night.  I don't really have an off switch with blow like I do with pretty much every other drug, so the only way to stop for that given evening is to flush it down the toilet.

I'm not sure how many times I've done this, but I have NEVER regretted it though.  The only regret I have is that I ever touched that filthy shit to begin with.

I've never thrown out good drugs. One time I returned 2/3ds of a bottle of T3s to the pharmacy because I didn't really need them after my eye surgery.

On the other hand when I was a teenager my mom flushed a quarter pound of good weed that she found in my room. Such a terrible waste. Makes me sad to this day.

They banned it here in Canada  2 years ago and the other day I saw some still being sold in a sketchy convenient store.

Meth and adderall similar? Nah meth is definitely more neurotoxic than normal amps.

However the neurotoxicity of D-methamphetamine is mainly associated with the increased chance of Parkinson's Disease compared to normal amphetamines. D-methamphetamine also has a higher affinity to TAAR1.

Some synthetic cathinones and other synthetic stimulants make D-methamphetamine's neurotoxicity look weak in comparison.
