Quince
    #23699969 - 10/02/16 11:47 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Quince is such a delicious, under-rated fruit.

It's a shame that most people haven't even heard of it.

It's a pretty rare fruit and you don't typically come across it at most groceries, but boy is it amazing. Probably my favorite fruit, no exaggeration.

Have you tried quince before?

No I have not tried that fruit, but I have been buying fruits from the tropical section, and slowly trying all the different stuff.

I tried a Cherimoya yesterday, it was good, almost $5 for one, but really good though, nice and creamy on the inside, lots of seed though, but tasted like a pineapple/coconut mix.

Try quince if you ever come across it, it is so delicious. I think it's a seasonal fruit though.

I also tried prickly pear fruit recently, it wasn't very tasty.

I held the pear in my hand, tossing it up and down, forgetting about all the tiny needles. I had so many tiny painful needles embedded in the palm on my hand for the whole day. Ugh.

I do like quince, but it always reminds me of greengage, which is delicious.

So many good fruit to choose from. Lychee, apple, baobab, pomelo, orange. One I'd love to try but haven't seen anywhere is chocolate. I'm told the beans are surrounded in a fruit that tastes like citrusy lychee, which sounds delicious.

Holy shit I was literally just about to make a weird fruit thread.

I am eating a Kiwano Melon

It's actually pretty cool.  Totally worth the $6 to try a fruit I have never tried before.

What does it taste like? It looks like a cross between a pear and an apple.

I hope not.  Pears suck.

Pears are pretty awesome when they are ripe. I think that my favorite fruit is probably mango, but it changes from time to time.

They are hard to bite into. Like unripe pears. Their flavour is subtle but delicious.

I will probably buy one next time I see one. I am curious about it. I almost bought a dragon fruit the other day, but it was super expensive so I didn't.

My mother told me that my aunt had a quince tree, but they were not edible until you boiled them.  Maybe that
was some off-the-wall variety.  I didn't know you could eat them raw.

There are some great tropical fruits that are little known.
Ones I like are:

Jamaican orange liliqoi is killer,

Grumichama (like normal cherries but spicy in a good way)
soursop when perfectly ripe (only when perfectly ripe)
jakfruit (only when perfectly ripe).
Mangoes of course (some are way better than others-like all fruits I guess).
Jaboticaba
Yea a good variety of pomello is nice

Durian is great imo, not for everyone though.

sugar apple is good (rolinia)
yellow pitaya is pretty good.
Star apples are nice
Large phillipino white guavas are good.
Jujubes are nice.
A’ea’e bananas are good.
the occaisonal starfruit and egg fruit is nice.
Fuyu persimmons are really good when soft (maybe not so rare in some states?).

That's what they say but I had one in surrey, BC (Canada) (imported from China) that had no stink.  It was awesome.

I have bought plenty of durians and they never had a bad smell. They were always frozen though so that probably has something to do with it.

Interesting, there is a local fruit dealer I know that wants to carry Durians, and would like to get rid of the stink,
I may be testing that out.

Might be a difference between species too. I doubt grocers are gonna stock the shittiest smelling varieties on their shelves.
