BRF invitro pinning at 90% colonisation?
    #23699937 - 10/02/16 11:32 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Hi, due to living in the UK I had to use drinking glasses instead of wide mouth mason jars for a PF tek I tried. Next time I'll try again with bonne maman jam jars as I've heard good things.

Anyway, one of my glasses has an invitro pin, apologise for the bad pic quality. Some of the pics are of the side of the glass 180° away from the pin, and shows the lack of full colonisation.

What should I do about this?

birth them.

they look ok to me. the uncolonized part appears to be the verm layer.
just wash it off.

edit: just saw the bottom of the jar/glass. wash that off too.

fyi, early pinning can be a sign of contam/bacterial issues.

Okay, that's pretty exciting then!

I hope it's not bacterial but if so i will use agar to grain next time.

Poundland have jars of jam the same style as bonne maman, who are expensive. I think tesco had them too. There are other alternatives too, like plastic tubs of sweets. You might eat more sweets than jam.

Ahh, damn. I bought some bonne jam today and made some more cakes, was £1.50 a pop. Will inoculate them tomorrow.

I dunked and rolled and it's now sat in the SGFC, forgot my growlight, will direct sunlight do? I'll be misting it again at midnight.

I've only ever fruited in sun light (indirect) the one in my sig  was in the conservatory. Did you leave it dunked for 24 hours? The cake needs to rehydrate.

I left it for 16 hours, the guide said any more than 12 was okay. Will that suffice?

Yeah its a good tek except for the glove box. I prefer 24 hours just for piece of mind and I usually birth when I get home from work so naturally I leave them till I get home and clean myself up after work the next day so its perfect for me. Keep us posted with your results, and well done almost there:highfive:
