Halloween costume ideas for a toddler.
#23699370 - 10/02/16 07:50 AM (7 years, 3 months ago) |

Hi pub. Anyone have any great ideas for a Halloween costume for a 1 year old boy? His mother and I can't seem to find something that we both think is good. She has her ideas, I have mine, but no agreement between us. Personally, I'd like to go with Chucky from Child's Play because he's the perfect height & has red hair. But that idea has been met with staunch opposition. I have also suggested Donald Trump.
So I'm open to input from you guys, hoping someone throws out an idea that we both like. This is his first Halloween that he can walk & talk, so I'd like him to have a cool costume to make it a fun experience. Probably best to keep it relatively simple, as neither of us are good at sfx makeup or anything, but I'd also like something a bit more clever than, say, a batman mask and suit.
Thanks!

I think it'd be really cute and funny to dress them up as an old man or old lady
If he's still bald, you can also dress him up as a monk, this idea is also saves you money since you could probably gather all the items to make the outfit yourself for less than $3

You need to let your child be creative here.
Halloween isn't about dressing them up and parading them around to get the attention of your peers,
no -- it's about letting them express themselves by living out a fantasy - even if only for a night - where they can be the heroes of the world.
Let it be.
Namaste.
Namaste.

He said his kid is 1 year old. He may or may not be able to even talk yet, let alone come up with an idea for a costume and articulate it to his parents.

It doesn't work like that with a one year old. He's not yet able to conceptualize Halloween & has no idea about dressing up in costumes. He has fun on days like birthdays and holidays, but he doesn't yet think of it as anything other than a day where a bunch of fun stuff randomly happened. Next year will probably be different, but this year we have to come up with something for him. But I appreciate your attempt, despite your smugness and assumptions.
Thanks for the ideas, Crystal G.

make him wear something ironic, maybe a clock or something...a dingo...dress him in the most inappropriate thing ever, a poop suit, like with the swirl, that way everyone will know you're joking, and you may attain parenting level Lazy Genius.

Exactly. Nice to hear that there's someone else here who's actually been around children. My son is close to two, like 6 weeks away from it, so he can speak a bunch of very simple phrases on his own and parrot some things I say, but articulating abstract thought is in the future yet.
A_A: haha, that's really awesome! I feel like it would take a bunch of sewing skills we haven't got, but it's a cool idea. My mom can sew real well, but I doubt she's got time to make something like that. But maybe I can talk to her about making a Baby Cthulhu costume...

Another cost-effective Halloween costume idea--you could dress him up as a biker gangster. Put a jean or faux-leather vest on him, tie a bandana on his head, draw in a goatee and put a couple temporary tattoos on him, and you're in business.
Edit: Bonus points if you tape an empty beer can to his hand

yeah, it's instantly a bit more within his ken, though, of course, something maybe like animal would be more, but screw that shit.
if you're gonna go with an animal, i saw go with Cthulhu.

he'd probably be like "dad is like wtf right now", only with no the concept of "time", "right", "like", and "is". (wtf is an expression, so doesn't mean the same thing) i forgot, like, that wasn't editing nuthin', and so i double posted in you thread. sorry. PS: ask the child at 1 what he wants to be. oy vey...

I feel like this costume is overly done too often. If we're going to dress them up as characters from alternative movies, I'd so rather dress up my kid as Dr. Frankenfurter from Rocky Horror but that's just me

Now this is an idea! Haha, if I wanted to go all out with Frank N Furter, we could double down on it, put him in black-face, and have him be the Laverne Cox version. That airs just like a week before Halloween, so it'd be super topical.

strap on big lips and a wig though, hmmm, with like a leotard...with like that flashy silvery stuff, lookin' like Richard Simmons.

Haha, I didn't piece together who "Alex from ACO" is until you edited in the pic. The funny thing about that is that I'm wearing an A Clockwork Orange t-shirt right now, and still missed the reference, lol. I like that idea though!

it's so far my favorite suggestion. (other than Slim Pickins, but that's a wasted effort, no one'll know that one, barely...but you could like sew a nuclear explosion to put on his head, under his Slim Pickins' hat....)
though, as G noted, it's been done to death. but it's classic...the eye patch and bowler hat, with gloves and a mini-cane (that's extravagant), and daaaaamn.

LOL. You going to put thigh-high stockings and a garter belt on him and everything? I'd love to see that. I don't even think you can find thigh-highs in that size (would be disturbing if you actually could).
