Rye Spawn question

Hi, how long can i store the cooked rye berries without inoculation. Im thinking about PCing a few jars, go 2 weeks on vacation, PCing the rest and inoculate them. Is it a problem to store the rye 3 weeks before inoculate it? or is it even a good thing to see contaminations before?
Thank you guys... this board is just great

Wait until you have time to inoculate right after sterilization imo.

A long time but, not to smart to leave rye bs wet in a jar for 2 weeks+ un-pc'ed. How do you think a wet jar full of dead rye 3 weeks old will smell? Maybe you can PC all then go on vaca then pc again when you get back.
BEST OPTION is to let um stay dry until you arrive back from vacation.
It is never a good thing to see contaminations before.

Yeah do not sterilize grains days or weeks ahead. There use to be big debates on here last year at least whether sterilizing rye actually sterilizes it. IMO I don't think it 100 percent gets rid of ALL endospores at any reasonable cook times.
If this is true and some endospores actually do survive the cook, then what you are trying to do is favor your mycelium to out-compete and overgrow said left over endospores. If the jars sit by on the side for three weeks before you introduce your mycelium then you have given the bacteria a three weeks head start. Always cook your grains the night before you plan to use them (or same day if you plan to work late at night) to give your mycelium the best chance possible.
If I remember correctly I think Mad Season told me long ago he cooks for maybe 2.5 hours and thinks that cook time will completely sterilize grains of all endospores. 2.5 hours is a waste of energy in my opinion unless you are getting contams everytime despite reviewing and reworking your sterile technique.
Personally I crank my autoclave up to 17-18 psi and cook for 90 minutes. With a clean culture I NEVER have any problems generating clean spawn.

did you read any of the responses? Not one person recommended storing cooked grains for any amount of time.

You Can store as long as you want, but the longer you wait the more funk that will be growing.
My guess is that you are going to do a MS crap shoot, hopefully you get luckey. You could go longer if you nocked um with a clean agar wedge cuz it don't take 5-15 days to start turning white, but it takes 2-3 weeks to get a clean colonized agar wedge.
WTF is a vacation anyway?

I would inoculate anything you PC within 24 hours of sterilizing.
You want that Myc to colonize that semi-clean rye as quickly as possible before anything else gets to it. The longer you wait, the higher the chance that when your jar does begin to colonize it will run up against a competitor making a home there and/or stall altogether. I shouldn't have to point out that any jar of spawn that is contaminated should not be spawned to bulk, and it some cases, shouldn't even be opened.
Point being, if you aren't intending on inoculating a short time after they cool from PCing, don't PC them. (OR soak them for that matter)

Also, if you're new and your posts contain the words: Humidifer, incubator, air-stone, or heater, then you need to read and UTFSE before asking people to review your setup. OR... You should be cultivating reptiles and fish, not mushrooms.
