Help!! Possible san pedro emergency.
    #23697494 - 10/01/16 03:15 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys I'm in need of some help with my san pedro (trichocereus panchanoi). Its got a few black spots on it about three inches from the base, I read the spots are usually nothing and one of the spots is starting to scab over already but what discerns me is the base.my trichs a cutting and there's still a stump left of what it was cut from attached to the bottom, thr stump has become mushy so I'm scared its rot.this is my first san pedro so I'm not sure what to do. The rest of the trich seems healthy, its got good color and the base isn't mushy or discolored but the stumps deff got something funky going on. Ill be able to provide pics ehen I'm home tonight if needed

The biggest trip of my life was realizing all of the events and actions described in posts made by this account were never real and had never actually happened, but were instead the delusional ramblings of a severely mentally ill human being. I just had to move on for my own good. I love you all.

The first pic is the black spots, the second two are the stump and the last is just a whole picture of the trich for a general view

1.-wait for an expert

2.-Get yourself a better soil mix, that doesn't look very quick draining

3.-That cactus does look healthy, if you are worried about the part you mention going soft and spreadng then should just cut off the main cactus and let it scab over before re-potting, better safe than sorry, but again, wait until someone who knows better chimes in.

It looks like a pup that's been cut off but the plant it's self looks healthy as all hell

You REALLY, REALLY need to amend that soil A LOT BETTER than you have it now with a lil perlite and some small pebbles like pea gravel and you'll be set at that point!

Keep up the good work Bro :super:

Its deff a pup that grew out, someone kust left a ramdom chunk of the original cactus it came from. If I remember correctly the roots don't even come the original stump thing.I'm glad to hear I'm doing ok so far. I'm failry retentive to the the trich it means a lot to me that I grows. How do I go about doing this to the soil. I kust watered it for irs first time in almost a month that's why the soil may look funny but I'm new so you probably see I don't.should I just add the perlit anr stones to the mix thats already their or should I make a new mixture and repot it?

That base looks like its on its way out. Id cut and let the base just be before it spreads to that pup.

I'm no expert. But I agree that the log at the base seems to have had it. Get the pup chopped off reroot and repot. You could always carry on caring for the log and if things are better than it looks you may get another pup. I think it'll just turn to mush tho.

I don't see anything which you should be concerned about, Trichs get black spots all the time which usually heal on their own.  I understand your concern though, you're being a good parent, nothing wrong with caring for your babies.

The only crappy thing about black spots, is they often heal and scar the nice bluish/green skin of the cactus.

Thank you guys so much, I really appreciate the help.any recommendations for soil types for when I cut the pup off? The trich was a gift from a friend and was already potted when I got it.he taught me the watering habits amd basic care but that's about it.rerooting is just cutting it off at the base and leaving it somewhere dry for two weeks or so until its scabbed right?

Update, I cut the pup off.the base was complete mush but the pup was completely untouched. I lost maybe an eight of an inch off the pup and that was onky because I had to in order for it to have the flat bottom to root  I picked up some perlit and pea gravel and a little sand to mix a new soil for when the time comes to root and repot.I seen succulent soil but choose to just mix my own. I'm eternally grateful to all of you for your help and tips. My anxiety and fear is gone and its on to helping my baby continue to thrive.
