Illinois bundleweed?
    #23697232 - 10/01/16 01:28 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I was reading up on the Illinois bundleweed. I then happened upon the plants pictured below growing throughout a park with lots of disturbed land from construction (southeastern US). After reading more, they seem to fit the description. I'm not a botanist, so maybe there are many plants that fit this description.

EDIT: just realized the seed pods looks totally different than Illinois bundleweed. Oh well. Does anyone know what this is?

2-4 ft tall

Leaves
Alternate, compound fern-like leaves. Around 10 pairs of leaflets, with each leaflet containing around 20 pairs of subleaflets. The middle stem of the compound leaves appear to have very small, fine white hairs, with a groove on the middle of the upper surface (sorry, couldn't get a good picture to show this detail of the leaf stem).

Stem
Green and appears grooved.

Seed
Reddish brown. Contained in a brownish pod which contained around 5-7 seeds.

American silk tree. Looks a lot like a mimosa. Gets much bigger than bundeweed tho.
